About This Opportunity
Join a collaborative, high-performing clinical team within UQ’s Veterinary Teaching Hospital, where clinical excellence meets hands-on learning and real-world impact. In this role, you will deliver advanced emergency and urgent veterinary care to small animal patients, with opportunities to provide care for exotic and small ruminant patients as required, while contributing to a dynamic teaching environment that supports students, interns and early-career clinicians.

Key responsibilities will include, but not limited to:
Delivering high-quality emergency and urgent care to small animal patients, including independent management of complex and critical cases.
Providing clinical leadership during after-hours and weekend services, directing nursing and technical teams.
Contributing to clinical teaching, mentoring and supervision of undergraduate students, interns and junior clinicians.
Supporting service development and continuous improvement initiatives within the Small Animal Hospital.
As a 24-hour operation, the rotating roster provides exposure to a broad range of cases and opportunities to develop your skills across multiple specialty areas. Your take-home salary will be dependent on your specific roster, including loadings of 50% for weekend shifts, 25% for night shifts, and 15% for afternoon shifts.
Afternoon shifts are shifts commencing at or after midday and finishing at or before midnight, Night Shift are shifts extending beyond midnight and finishing at or before 9AM.

UQ VETS Equine Hospital is largely referral-based hospital with advanced facilities and offers a 24-hour emergency medical and surgical service. UQ VETS Small Animal Hospital boasts the latest in veterinary medical and surgical diagnostic and treatment options for small animals, birds, exotic pets and wildlife, as well as a 7-day urgent and emergency Care service. UQ staff also supervise clinical placements at the RSPCA’s Brisbane Animal Care Campus, Wacol.

About You
A Bachelor of Veterinary Science or equivalent, registrable in Queensland.
Demonstrated experience performing at an advanced clinical level in small animal emergency and critical care, with evidence of advanced clinical training, professional accreditation or equivalent experience.
Demonstrated relationship-centred approach to veterinary care, with a commitment to developing genuine partnerships with the entire healthcare team, including the client.
Demonstrated accountability and a proactive attitude with the enthusiasm and drive to identify and contribute to improvements the clinical context.
Commitment and enthusiasm for the education of Veterinary Science and Veterinary Technology students.
An understanding and knowledge of relevant legislative and professional requirements relating to veterinary practice in Queensland and to veterinary health and safety requirements.
Ability to establish effective professional relationships and to represent the School of Veterinary Science to the university and wider community, including industry, government and professional bodies.
Demonstrated effective interpersonal, teamwork, negotiation and consultation skills and formal written and oral communication skills.
