    • The position can be offered at Level B or C:

      • Academic Level B will be in the range $119,462 - $141,545 + 17% Superannuation

      • Academic Level C will be in the range $145,961 - $168,043 + 17% Superannuation

    • Based at our St Lucia campus

The School of Communication and Arts is seeking to appoint an outstanding academic in AI and Communication. The successful candidate will be appointed at either Lecturer (Level B) or Senior Lecturer (Level C), depending on their qualifications, experience, achievements, and alignment with the relevant academic level criteria.

    We welcome applications from scholars working in any relevant area, but in particular we are seeking expertise in one or more of the following:

    • Assessing AI tools and their integration into media and communication industries              

    • Critical inquiry and/or ethical frameworks surrounding AI, including governance, accountability, responsible AI, the politics of AI, social and cultural impacts of AI

    • Intellectual property, creativity, and creative labour in the context of AI automation

    • Organisational, economic and cultural impacts of AI on communication processes and industries

You will educate the next generation of communication professionals while developing an impactful research program and collaborating across disciplines with industry and community partners to address the opportunities and challenges AI presents for media, communication and society.

    Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: 

    • Teaching: Develop and deliver courses, engage in curriculum design, coordinate courses, assess students, provide academic counselling, and adhere to university teaching rules.

    • Research: Establish a research program, collaborate on research projects, seek and manage research funding, publish in reputable journals, utilize best practice research methodologies, and participate in project discussions.

    • Supervision and Researcher Development: Contribute to the supervision of Honours and Higher Degree by Research students, demonstrate the responsible conduct of research, support the development of researcher capability and skill, facilitate engagement opportunities for supervisees, provide feedback, coaching and professional development to staff, manage staff in accordance with University policy and procedures, and work to promptly resolve conflict and grievances when they arise.

    • Citizenship and Service: Develop partnerships, demonstrate leadership through mentoring, engage in internal service roles and committees, engage with external stakeholders and partners, perform administrative functions, provide support to colleagues, and uphold university values.

    About You 

    Applicants should possess a PhD in Communication, Media or a relevant field. Additionally, you will demonstrate:

    Lecturer (Level B):

    • A growing profile in teaching and research in the discipline area.

    • A developing reputation and track record of publications in reputed refereed journals and presenting at conferences.

    • Evidence of successfully seeking, obtaining and managing external research funding.

    • Evidence of a high level of quality teaching at undergraduate, honours and postgraduate level across a variety of settings, including small and large groups.

    • Experience in course coordination and contribution to the development and continuous innovation of new programs, curriculum design and course material in the discipline area. 

    • A growing record of supervision of honours and Research Higher Degree students to successful completion.

    • Experience in meaningful internal service roles in conjunction with active contributions to external activities

    Senior Lecturer (Level C):

    • An established profile in teaching and research in the discipline area.

    • National recognition in the area of expertise, with an internationally developing profile and an established record of publications in reputed refereed journal and presenting at conferences.

    • A strong record of successfully seeking, obtaining and managing external research funding.

    • Evidence of a high level of quality teaching at undergraduate, honours and postgraduate level across a variety of settings, including small and large groups.

    • A strong track record of course coordination and participation in the development and continuous innovation of new programs, curriculum design and course material in the discipline area.

    • A solid record of supervision of honours and Research Higher Degree students to successful completion.

    • A growing record of meaningful internal service roles in conjunction with a strong contribution to external activities.
