Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting an exceptional Team Leader, Student Fees to lead our Student Fees team and play a key role in ensuring our students receive accurate, timely and supportive financial advice and services. This permanent, full-time, newly established leadership role will support the Manager, Student Finance, taking responsibility for the day-to-day management of the Student Fees team and functions while creating capacity for the Manager to focus on strategic initiatives, projects, and future service improvements.
Reporting to the Manager, Student Finance, you will lead a team of Student Fees Advisers, providing leadership, coaching and operational oversight. Working closely with the Senior Student Fees Adviser and key stakeholders across the University, you will ensure accurate and effective fee administration, debt management, service delivery and continuous improvement initiatives.
The role is primarily in-person, based at the Kelburn campus, with flexibility to work from home one day per week.
Key responsibilities:
- Leading, coaching and developing a team of Student Fees Advisers.
- Managing workflow planning, performance, and service delivery outcomes.
- Supporting the management and monitoring of student fee payments and debt, proactively identifying key trends and risks.
- Providing guidance on complex student financial situations and escalated cases.
- Supporting data governance, reporting and fee setup processes.
- Contributing to projects, system enhancements and business continuity processes.

To be successful, you will bring:
- Leadership experience with proven ability to coach, motivate and develop staff.
- Experience managing team workloads and priorities in a busy operational environment.
- Strong judgement and decision-making skills, with the ability to effectively manage escalated cases, recommend appropriate resolutions, and escalate sensitive or high-risk matters when required.
- High levels of accuracy, attention to detail, and appreciation for data integrity.
- Outstanding customer service and communication skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships, navigate challenging conversations, and achieve positive outcomes for students and stakeholders alike.
- Experience in finance, accounting, student administration, or related field.
