    Job Description:

    • Join a purpose driven organisation translating world leading marine science into meaningful impact for Western Australian’s.
    • Use your storytelling and communications expertise to showcase cutting edge research and engage diverse audiences.
    • Full-time appointment on a fixed term basis for 12 months, with the potential to extend to 2029, depending on external funding.
    • Base salary range: $104,243 – $115,661 p.a. plus 17% superannuation.

    About the area

    The Western Australian Marine Science Institution (WAMSI) is a collaborative partnership that brings together marine researchers, government agencies, industry and the community to address key challenges facing Western Australia's marine environments. WAMSI works to increase ocean literacy, support our Partner organisation and connect science with decision-making. The Communications team plays a strategic role in raising the profile and impact of WAMSI's research, activities and partnerships through high-quality storytelling, stakeholder engagement and digital communications.

    About the opportunity

    • Lead the development and delivery of compelling communications that showcase the impact of marine science research and strengthen WAMSI's reputation and influence.
    • Create engaging content across a variety of channels, including feature articles, news stories, digital platforms, publications and multimedia products.
    • Work closely with researchers, partners and stakeholders to translate complex scientific information into accessible, audience-focused stories that drive engagement and impact.

    About you

    • Relevant tertiary qualification in communications, journalism, media or a related discipline, or equivalent demonstrated experience.
    • Substantial experience in journalistic writing, storytelling and content development, with the ability to produce engaging content for diverse audiences.
    • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including experience interviewing stakeholders and translating complex information into clear and compelling narratives.
    • Demonstrated experience working across digital communications channels, including websites, social media and content management systems, supported by an understanding of audience engagement and analytics.
    • Proven ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and provide strategic communications advice in a complex stakeholder environment.
