The Malcolm Broomhead Chair in Finance is a prestigious flagship appointment, made possible through the generous support of distinguished UQ alumnus Mr Malcolm Broomhead AO. The Chair represents a significant strategic investment in advancing the School’s global leadership in finance research and education.
At the forefront of the discipline, the successful appointee will bring an ambitious and future-focused vision for finance, driving excellence across a broad and inclusive research agenda. Open to all areas of finance, the role offers the scope to strengthen established capabilities while building strategic distinction in emerging and high-impact areas.
Working closely with Faculty and School leadership, the Chair will elevate the visibility, impact and cohesion of finance at UQ by attracting and developing high-performing academic talent, fostering a vibrant and globally connected research culture, strengthening industry and international partnerships, and enhancing high-quality teaching across undergraduate, postgraduate, and executive education programs.

About You
We are seeking a globally recognised, forward-thinking academic leader to take on this flagship role. You will hold a PhD in Finance, Economics, or a closely related discipline, and bring a distinguished and sustained record of publishing in top-tier journals. Your track record will reflect not only research excellence, but also the ability to secure competitive funding and lead high-impact research initiatives that shape the global finance landscape.
Beyond your scholarly achievements, you are an inspiring and inclusive leader who is energised by developing people and ideas. You are deeply committed to teaching excellence and bring a strong record of supervising Higher Degree by Research candidates to successful completion. Through your mentorship, you cultivate talent, elevate performance, and help build a thriving, high-achieving academic community.
You are also highly adept at translating academic insight into real-world impact — building meaningful partnerships with industry, government, and professional bodies. With a strong sense of academic citizenship, you contribute thoughtfully to governance and play an active role in shaping a collaborative, values-driven culture.
