    About This Opportunity 

    This is an exciting opportunity to join UQ’s School of Chemical Engineering as a teaching-focused Lecturer or Senior Lecturer and inspire the next generation of chemical engineers. Bring your chemical engineering expertise, ideally with relevant industry or professional experience, that can be embedded directly into our innovative curriculum. The role is important to the School’s industry and alumni links and industry-embedded learning experiences that support highly skilled, industry-ready graduates. We are seeking an educator who is genuinely passionate about student learning and committed to creating engaging, practical and inclusive learning experiences and to contributing to the collegiality of our School community.

    Key responsibilities at Academic level B - Lecturer will include:

    • Teaching: Contribute to teaching across practicals, fieldwork, lectures, tutorials, and small and large group settings. Coordinate courses, design assessment and support student learning through effective teaching, feedback and academic guidance. Actively improve curriculum and assessment to enhance student participation and learning outcomes through effective pedagogy and technology. Collaborate in educational projects, share best practices, and ensure courses meet industry and educational standards. Support industry-embedded learning opportunities that strengthen student engagement, learning outcomes and graduate readiness.

    • Research: Collaborate in research teams, engage with partners, and participate in discipline-related service. Uphold responsible research conduct, maintain safe laboratory operations, and apply best-practice research methodologies.

    • Supervision and Researcher Development: Contribute to the supervision of Honours, Masters, Higher Degree by Research, and vacation scholars, providing coaching, feedback, and training to enhance performance. Prioritise occupational health, safety, and wellbeing.

    • Citizenship and Service: Embody UQ values and actively contribute to the School’s vibrant and collegiate culture. Demonstrate leadership through mentoring, collaboration, and engagement with colleagues, contributing to an inclusive and supportive School community. Contribute to internal service roles and committees. Pursue goals in external service and partnerships.

    Additional responsibilities at Academic level C – Senior Lecturer will include:

    • Teaching: Demonstrate continuous improvement in curriculum and assessment. Lead and/or make significant contributions to new curriculum development. Build and maintain internal and external education collaborations. Lead programs, plans, courses and/or student cohorts. Lead or make significant contributions to industry-embedded learning opportunities, including industry involvement in courses, plant visits, practical training, and industry placements that enhance student learning and strengthen graduate readiness.

    • Research: Produce research outputs resulting in national recognition, and a developing international profile. Contribute to teams in conducting research, engaging with partners, and participate in relevant discipline service. Demonstrate leadership in the responsible conduct of research, safe laboratory and research operations, and draw upon best practice research methodologies.

    • Supervision and Researcher Development: Engage in supervision which may include Coursework Masters, Honours, Higher Degree by Research and vacation scholars. Demonstrate personal effectiveness in supervision and management, and development of capability and skill, by providing feedback, coaching, and professional development.

    • Citizenship and Service: Establish a track record of collaboration in relation to external service activities and engagement, including opportunities that raise the profile of educational excellence at UQ. Advance external links and partnerships and sustain relationships with industry, government departments, professional bodies and the wider community that enhance curriculum and create new work integrated learning (WIL) opportunities.

    About You 

    Academic level B, Lecturer:

    • Completed undergraduate and ideally postgraduate (PhD) degree in chemical engineering with relevant industry or professional experience and growing profile in chemical engineering teaching and/or research.

    • High-quality teaching experience at undergraduate, honours, and postgraduate levels across diverse settings.

    • Experience in course coordination and innovation in programs, curriculum design, and course materials.

    • Participation in projects improving curriculum, pedagogy, or assessment, and/or a record of contributing successfully to applications for research funds in a field relevant to chemical engineering.

    • Involvement in supervising honours and/or Research Higher Degree students.

    • Contributions to internal service roles, including mentoring staff or students, with well-developed communication, interpersonal, and collaborative skills.

    • Experience engaging with industry and familiarity with industries relevant to chemical engineering.

    • RPEQ registration (or willingness to register) is highly regarded.

    Additional for Academic level C, Senior Lecturer:

    • You will have an established profile in chemical engineering teaching and/or research.

    • You will have an established profile teaching across chemical engineering with program-level leadership or equivalent.

    • You will have led successful innovative and impactful projects with a developing national profile.

    • Ability to build strong connections with industry.
