As Senior Lecturer and Principal Specialty Supervisor in General Practice at the Rockhampton Regional Clinical Unit, you will lead the design and delivery of high-quality, inclusive learning experiences that empower students to thrive in a supportive and community-focused setting. Working alongside passionate rural clinicians, academic colleagues and healthcare partners, you will contribute to a culture of excellence, innovation and meaningful impact in regional health education, aligned with UQ’s commitment to creating change together.

    Key responsibilities will include:

    • Teaching: Provide academic leadership in General Practice education across the MD program, delivering engaging teaching, coordinating placements, and fostering a rich, supportive learning environment for students and clinical educators.

    • Teaching Impact and Research: Maintain and grow your academic profile through scholarship and collaboration, contributing to a vibrant research culture and strengthening partnerships across the Rural Clinical School and healthcare sector.

    • Supervision and Researcher Development: Support and mentor students and emerging educators, promoting reflective practice, professional growth, and the responsible conduct of research.

    • Citizenship and Service: Actively contribute to the life of the Regional Clinical Unit and broader Medical School community, building strong relationships with stakeholders and championing rural medical careers and student success.

    About You  

    • Medical qualification with a General Practice Specialist qualification, and eligibility for registration with AHPRA

    • Demonstrated clinical expertise in General Practice, with a strong understanding of contemporary, evidence-based teaching practices

    • An established track record in clinical teaching, including experience supporting and assessing medical students across undergraduate or postgraduate programs

    • Proven ability to build and maintain effective partnerships with clinicians, practices and broader healthcare stakeholders

    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to mentor, support and inspire diverse student cohorts

    • Highly organised and adaptable, with the ability to operate effectively in a complex, multidisciplinary and regional clinical education environment

    About the Rural Clinical School

    Located within the UQ Medical School, the Rural Clinical School (RCS) is the largest rural clinical school hosted by a single university. It works to foster and sustain a skilled and dynamic medical workforce to meet the needs of rural, regional, and remote Queensland.

    The Rural Clinical School provides students with rigorous clinical training built upon hands-on experiences in hospitals and community-based practices. Above all, we give our students the unique opportunity to live and work in some of Queensland’s amazing rural, regional, and remote locations. Our classrooms are the public and private hospitals, specialist consulting rooms, general practices and community healthcare settings throughout rural, regional and remote Queensland. Our teachers are dedicated and passionate rural clinicians. Our students get the opportunity to learn in a range of clinical contexts across the public, private and community sectors.
