    We are seeking an ambitious and collaborative Lecturer in Biotechnology to join our growing academic team.

    This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the future of biotechnology education and research at one of Australasia's leading engineering schools. We are looking for someone with expertise in scalable biotechnology and biomanufacturing who is passionate about advancing innovative research while inspiring and mentoring the next generation of engineers and scientists.

    You'll establish an independent research programme, contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, supervise research students, and work collaboratively with colleagues across the University and external partners. This role offers the opportunity to help shape emerging areas of biotechnology, strengthen industry engagement, and contribute to research with meaningful societal impact.

    Whether your expertise lies in cell-based production systems, nucleic acid manufacturing, bioprocess engineering, or related biotechnology disciplines, you'll join a supportive environment that encourages collaboration, innovation, and academic excellence.

    Key responsibilities include:

    • Delivering high-quality undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in biotechnology and related engineering disciplines
    • Developing an internationally recognised research programme in scalable biotechnology or biomanufacturing
    • Supervising postgraduate research students and supporting their academic development
    • Publishing high-quality research and contributing to the University's research excellence
    • Building collaborative relationships across the University, industry, and the wider research community
    • Contributing to curriculum development, innovation, and continuous improvement in teaching and learning
    • Supporting research funding applications and collaborative research initiatives
    • Actively contributing to the collegial culture and service activities of the Department

    This is a permanent role, working 40 hours per week. The salary range for this role is $99,788 to $119,204 per annum depending on experience and qualifications.

    Ngā pūkenga motuhake | Important skills and experience

    • A PhD in Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, Bioprocess Engineering, or a closely related discipline is essential
    • Strong expertise in scalable biotechnology or biomanufacturing, such as cell-based production systems or nucleic acid manufacturing
    • A strong track record of high-quality research publications in top ranked journals with high citations in a relevant field
    • Experience teaching in a tertiary environment and engaging diverse student groups preferably at highly ranked institutions
    • Demonstrated good ability to supervise postgraduate research students
    • Excellent communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills

    The following would be beneficial:

    • Experience securing research funding or working with industry
    • Experience with AI or data-driven approaches to bioprocess development
    • Experience with automation, high-throughput technologies, or omics-based research
