Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor in Urban and Regional Planning Systems

Job Description:

The School of Architecture and Built Environment delivers programs, knowledge and technical skills focused on designing, planning, constructing, and managing the built environment sustainably. The School combines complementary disciplinary strengths in architecture and the built environment to education and research in partnership with industry to solve real-world problems. We advance sustainable development, technological innovation and apply human centred and critical perspectives to engage industry, government and communities in design and innovation in the built environment. We research and teach collaboration and stakeholder engagement in professionally based contexts. We also research and teach tools and technologies such as construction and architectural robotics, environmental simulation and assessment, and big data analytics to inform projects and decision making.Level C

1. Completion of a PhD in Urban and Regional Planning or equivalent accreditation or standing. Demonstrated expertise and track record in teaching and research in planning at a systems level (could include a in one or more of the following areas: land use systems and planning, structural design, infrastructure; urban policy and governance and/or ecological sustainability or other areas relevant to planning systems not listed here. Membership (or eligibility to become a member) of the Planning Institute of Australia and demonstrated expertise as a practicing Urban or Regional Planner will be regarded favourably.
2. Effective leadership in the successful development and delivery of research projects. Demonstrated experience initiating, developing and maintaining excellence in research demonstrated by high-quality publications, success in attracting competitive external research funding, and successful supervision of student research projects including PhD completions.
3. Demonstrated track record in high-quality, real-world teaching (including unit / course coordination) including an ability to develop scholarly and innovative approaches to teaching and learning and a demonstrated capacity to teach classes in the professionally oriented Urban and Regional Planning Major.
4. Demonstrated networks and experience in leading the development of impactful partnerships with industry, professional associations, government or community groups in research and teaching.
5. Demonstrated capacity to lead self and embrace change to improve personal and organisational effectiveness, cooperate and collaborate well with others in a team with diverse backgrounds and expertise including cross-disciplinary collaborations.
6. Demonstrated leadership and sustained experience in engaging with First Nations colleagues and communities in ways that value Indigenous authority, including responding constructively to feedback and embedding that guidance into teaching, research, or leadership practice will be regarded favourably.
7. Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity and Indigenous Australian engagement.

Level D

1. Completion of a PhD in Urban and Regional Planning or equivalent accreditation or standing. Demonstrated expertise and track record in teaching and research in planning at a systems level in one or more of the following areas will be highly regarded: land use systems and planning, structural design, infrastructure; urban policy and governance and/or ecological sustainability, or other areas relevant to planning systems not listed here. Membership (or eligibility to become a member) of the Planning Institute of Australia and demonstrated expertise as a practicing Urban or Regional Planner will be regarded favourably.
2. Outstanding established track record of developing, leading and delivering impactful research projects. Demonstrated experience in initiating leading, developing and maintaining an impactful research program as demonstrated by high-quality publications, success in attracting research funding, research team leadership and mentoring, effective research project delivery, and successful completion of higher degree student research projects as primary supervisor.
3. Demonstrated significant track record in high quality, real-world teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels (including unit/ course coordination and curriculum development). Demonstrated expertise in high-quality, real-world teaching including an ability to develop scholarly and innovative approaches to teaching and learning, and a demonstrated capacity to teach classes in the professionally oriented Urban and Regional Planning Major.
4. Demonstrated networks in urban and regional planning and leadership experience in initiating and building impactful partnerships with industry, professional associations, government or community groups in research and teaching.
5. Demonstrated ability to lead self and others in a positive, collegial manner and implement change to improve personal and organisational effectiveness. Ability to cooperate and collaborate well with others in a team with diverse backgrounds and Interdisciplinary teams.
6. Demonstrated leadership and sustained experience in engaging with First Nations colleagues and communities in ways that recognise Indigenous authority, including responding constructively to feedback and embedding that guidance into teaching, research, and academic leadership to effect meaningful change will be regarded favourably.
