International Centre for Future Health Systems and the Built Environment

Our built environment, housing and community infrastructure directly shape human health, from cardiovascular disease, respiratory conditions, and injury risk to mental health and social participation. Similarly, the design of the spaces and environments in which we care for people across acute, community and home-based care contexts have a significant impact on both individual and societal health outcomes.

To develop equitable, resilient and sustainable future health systems in Australia, and globally, there is an urgent need for the integration of building science, design methodologies and architectural research within health promotion, policy, and system design and delivery.

To advance the exchange and production of knowledge across these sectors, the UNSW International Centre for Future Health Systems and School of Built Environment are collaboratively recruiting a Level A Post Doctoral Research Associate focused on the built environment dimensions of future health systems.

    Position Summary

The position will be based in the International Centre for Future Health Systems, Faculty of Medicine and Health, working in partnership with the School of Built Environment, Faculty of Arts Design and Architecture.

The role would be focused on strengthening capacity to address built environment determinants of health, generate policy-relevant evidence for healthy and climate-resilient buildings and communities, and foster interdisciplinary collaboration in future health systems research across UNSW.

This role would position UNSW at the forefront of research seeking to understand and influence how the design and operation of buildings and health facilities shape the health systems of the future.

    Some Key Skills Required:

    • A PhD in a related discipline (either in the built environment, such as architecture, architectural science, construction, or health systems such as medicine, public health) and relevant work experience.
    • Proven commitment to proactively keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments in future health systems and the built environment.
    • Demonstrated ability to undertake high quality academic research and conduct independent research with limited supervision.
    • Demonstrated track record of publications and conference presentations relative to opportunity.
    • Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships.
