About This Opportunity
Join a passionate, student-focused team supporting mental health, wellbeing, and safety across the UQ community. As a Part time Student Counsellor, you’ll deliver evidence-based support, lead workshops, and contribute to initiatives that make a genuine difference to student outcomes.
This role offers variety and autonomy, supporting students through complex and sensitive challenges while contributing to a safe, inclusive environment including support for those impacted by sexual misconduct.
Key responsibilities will include:
Deliver high-quality, evidence-based counselling to students with complex or high-risk needs
Lead intake, assessment, risk evaluation, and safety planning
Design and facilitate workshops and group programs that promote mental health and resilience
Provide trusted advice to colleagues and stakeholders on student wellbeing and safety
Contribute to service improvements and initiatives that enhance student experience
This role includes the opportunity and expectation to travel to UQ campuses at Dutton Park, St Lucia, and Herston, while being predominantly based at Gatton.
About You
A relevant degree in psychology, social work, counselling, or a related discipline, with experience delivering counselling and wellbeing support
Demonstrated ability to work with complex, sensitive, and high-risk presentations using trauma-informed and person-centred approaches
Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and engage effectively with diverse student populations and stakeholders
Sound professional judgement and ability to work autonomously while managing competing priorities
Experience interpreting and applying policy, legislation, and ethical frameworks in practice
Well-developed written communication skills, including case notes, reports, and documentation
A collaborative mindset, with a commitment to ongoing learning, reflective practice, and contributing to team outcomes
