    Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

    Te Herenga Waka – Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting for a Professional Practice Adviser to join Te Puna Hauora - School of Health on a fixed-term, part-time contract.

    As a registered Psychologist, you will play an active role in the development and teaching of professional practice within the Whakahāngai Mātai Hinengaro Hauora - Postgraduate Diploma in Health Psychology Practice in Te Puna Hauora - School of Health.

    The Professional Practice Adviser position is located within Te Puna Hauora - School of Health, Te Pukenga Wai - Faculty of Education, Health, and Psychological Sciences. Hybrid working is negotiable, but some meetings will be held in-person.

    Key responsibilities:

    • Work closely with Whakahāngai Pouakorangi - Programme Director, Health Psychology Pouakorangi - Programme Director and wider Health Psychology team.
    • Use your teaching, practice, and healthcare experience to provide strategic advice and operational support to Whakahāngai development, programme design, and delivery.
    • Teach into Whakahāngai, and support curriculum development, selection, and examination processes making sure they align with NZPB core competencies, Te Tiriti o Waitangi provisions, and the Whakahāngai values.
    • Oversee Whakahāngai internships. Coordinate with and support intern supervisors and interns to ensure effective professional practice training to become a registered Psychologist (general scope). This may include travel to visit students at their internships.
    • Contribute to the Whakahāngai and Te Puna Hauora - School of Health academic and strategic direction and planning.
    • Contribute to the Whakahāngai student and programme success through a commitment to evidence-based practice, Whakahāngai values, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and equity.
    • Maintain strong stakeholder relationships within Te Herenga Waka – Victoria University of Wellington and across health sector and services to support programme delivery and development, including securing internships.
    • Provide student support including academic supervision and pastoral care.
    • Participation in planning and development activities related to Whakahāngai and such other related duties as may be required by your Tumuaki - Head of School from time to time.

    Ō pūmanawa - About you

    You will be a passionate, person-centred and culturally safe practitioner with a strong knowledge of Psychologist core competencies and evidence-based practice in health settings. Your relationship skills and your experience in teaching, psychological practice, and healthcare will support your contributions to Whakahāngai strategic planning, operations, and teaching.

    Key requirements:

    • New Zealand Registered Psychologist with a current practising certificate (any scope).
    • Experience working as a registered Psychologist in health settings, with strong knowledge of evidence-based practice, e.g., CBT, ACT and theories of behaviour change.
    • Teaching experience.
    • Demonstrated understanding of the role of Te Tiriti o Waitangi in teaching and practice and the unique status of tangata whenua in Aotearoa.
    • Knowledge of and experience working in healthcare settings including, but not limited to, mental health, physical health, hauora Māori.
    • Knowledge of and experience applying culturally specific and culturally appropriate frameworks and practices.
