Job Description:
- Lead the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of high-value philanthropic partnerships that support AUT’s strategic priorities.

- Full-time permanent role based at AUT's City Campus
Auckland University of Technology (AUT) is bold and unapologetically different, centred on students and grounded in Knowledge that Works, driven by talented, progressive people. We are New Zealand’s newest university, ranked 5-stars by QS Universities 2025 and a place of opportunity where more than 26,000 students with talent and potential succeed, supported by a community of more than 4,000 staff based primarily across three Auckland campuses.
Built on collaboration, shared purpose and the values of Pono (fact, truth, integrity), Tika (acting ethically and doing what is needed), and Aroha (empathy, care, compassion), AUT offers an innovative, forward-thinking environment where committed people work together to improve outcomes for students, communities, and the world.
AUT recognises the importance of Te Tiriti, Māori and Pacific knowledge, leadership, and contribution across our university and is committed to creating environments where these communities can thrive. We embrace diversity in all its forms and are proud to welcome people of all backgrounds and experiences.
AUT Foundation is the official charity for AUT. We are on a mission to accelerate impact through partnerships—bringing together people, resources and ideas to create lasting, positive change through transformational education.
About the role
We are seeking a Fundraiser to lead the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of high-value philanthropic partnerships that support AUT’s strategic priorities.
This is a highly relational role focused on securing major gifts (typically $50k - $100k+) and building a strong pipeline of donors. Working within the Vice-Chancellor’s Office and closely with senior leaders, you will develop meaningful, long-term relationships with donors, trusts, and partners—connecting their passions with opportunities to make a transformational impact at AUT.
You will play a key role in growing AUT’s culture of philanthropy, shaping compelling propositions, and delivering fundraising activity that creates lasting outcomes for students, research, and community impact.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the cultivation, and solicitation of major gift donors
- Develop tailored engagement and solicitation strategies for individual prospects
- Build and manage a strong portfolio of donor relationships and opportunities
- Partner with Foundation leadership to align donor interests with institutional priorities
- Maintain accurate donor records and insights within CRM systems (e.g. Raiser’s Edge)
- Contribute to and deliver the AUT Foundation fundraising plan
- Represent AUT at events and engagement opportunities to grow relationships and networks
About you and the opportunity
You are a confident relationship builder with a track record of securing philanthropic support or leading high-value stakeholder engagement. You bring the ability to navigate complex environments, engage senior stakeholders, and translate strategic priorities into compelling opportunities for investment.
You will be comfortable working independently while collaborating across a wide range of internal and external partners. You are values-driven, culturally aware, and motivated by creating equitable outcomes through education.
You will bring:
- Proven experience in major gifts fundraising or significant experience in donor/stakeholder relationship management
- A strong understanding of the end-to-end fundraising process, from cultivation to solicitation and stewardship
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence and build trust
- Strong networks and the ability to open doors to new opportunities
- High levels of initiative, judgement, and adaptability in a fast-paced environment
- A commitment to equity, diversity, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi
This is a unique opportunity to work closely with senior University leaders and play a direct role in shaping AUT’s philanthropic future—securing transformational gifts that will benefit students and communities for generations to come.
