    Why Your Role Matters

    The Residential Wellbeing Clinician plays an important role within Student Wellbeing & Sport in the Pro Vice-Chancellor Student Services portfolio.

    Living away from home, adjusting to university life, and managing academic and personal pressures can be challenging for many students. This role provides timely, compassionate, and clinically informed support to students living in UNSW accommodation, helping them navigate challenges, access appropriate services, and thrive within their residential community.

    Acting as a central point of intake, triage, and coordination for accommodation-based wellbeing concerns, you will work closely with students, residential staff, the UNSW Psychology & Wellness Service, Health Service, Colleges, and external providers to ensure students receive the right support at the right time.

    This role combines clinical-informed assessment, early intervention, case management, and stakeholder engagement responsibilities. You will play a key role in supporting student wellbeing, building staff capability, coordinating responses to complex matters, and contributing to a safe, inclusive, and supportive residential environment.

    This a fixed term 12-month contract – reporting into the Clinical Lead with a dotted line to the Head of Student Accommodation.

    Key responsibilities include:

    • Act as a primary point of contact for wellbeing referrals from UNSW accommodation and affiliated residential providers

    • Conduct wellbeing and risk assessments, triage student concerns, and identify appropriate support pathways

    • Provide timely early intervention, stabilisation support, and referral to internal and external services

    • Develop and coordinate safety plans in collaboration with students, accommodation staff, and support services

    • Deliver brief wellbeing and psychosocial interventions to support students experiencing distress or vulnerability

    • Provide case management and care coordination for students with ongoing or complex wellbeing needs

    • Support residential staff through consultation, guidance, and advice on student wellbeing matters

    • Deliver wellbeing, transition, and help-seeking initiatives within residential communities

    • Coordinate responses to critical incidents affecting residential students and support post-incident recovery and follow-up

    • Maintain high-quality documentation and contribute to the continuous improvement of residential wellbeing practices and frameworks

    About You

    You are a compassionate and proactive wellbeing professional who is passionate about supporting young adults during a significant period of transition and growth. You bring strong assessment and risk management skills, a collaborative approach, and the ability to engage effectively with students experiencing a broad range of wellbeing concerns. You will bring:

    • A tertiary qualification in psychology or social work. Registration or eligibility for registration with a relevant professional body (such as AASW, or AHPRA)

    • Experience providing clinical-informed intake and triage, risk assessment, safety planning, and brief interventions

    • Experience supporting individuals with complex wellbeing needs through case management and care coordination

    • Demonstrated experience working with young people, students, or individuals experiencing psychosocial or mental health concerns

    • Strong understanding of early intervention, risk management, and referral pathways

    • Ability to build effective relationships and work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders

    • Excellent communication, documentation, and organisational skills

    • Sound professional judgement and the ability to manage sensitive and complex situations appropriately

    • Knowledge of higher education frameworks relating to student wellbeing, safety, and support services would be highly regarded

    Working hours are Monday to Friday, business hours. The role is mostly onsite (1 day work from home possible).

    Candidates will need to be based in NSW and have full working rights – this role is not available for sponsorship. All candidates will need to have a valid police check and working with children check.
