As the Station Manager at Orpheus Island Research Station (OIRS), you’ll play a pivotal role in supporting world‑class research and education in one of the most unique marine environments on the planet.

What you’ll bring

We’re looking for someone with:

• Qualifications and experience aligned to HEWL 8, as outlined in the Enterprise Agreement.

• Significant experience managing or operating a remote research facility or similar environment.

• Strong understanding of WHS legislation and the ability to embed safe practices.

• High‑level problem‑solving, critical thinking, and decision‑making skills.

• Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship‑building capabilities.

• Proven leadership experience, including coaching and developing staff.

• The ability to manage competing priorities in a complex operational setting.

Role requirements

This is a unique role with unique requirements. You will need to:

• Live and work remotely on Orpheus Island as part of a 4 weeks onsite and 2 weeks offsite or 2 weeks onsite and 1 week offsite rotational roster.

• Undertake physical duties in hot conditions and perform repetitive manual tasks.

• Hold (or be willing to obtain):

  • Senior First Aid, Remote Area First Aid, CPR and Oxygen Provider certification

  • Coxswain’s certification

  • Divemaster qualification

  • Certificate IV in WHS (desirable)
