Help preserve and share stories that matter
As the Special Collections Library Officer, you'll play a vital role in preserving and managing rare and culturally significant materials that support James Cook University's research, teaching and community engagement. Through expert archival practices, digitisation activities and exceptional client service, you'll help connect researchers, students and the wider community with unique collections that preserve the stories, history and cultural heritage of Northern Australia and the Tropics.

How you'll make an impact
You'll help ensure JCU's special collections remain accessible, preserved and discoverable for future generations by:
- Supporting the care, handling and management of cultural and special collection materials in line with archival standards and cultural sensitivities.
- Assisting with digitisation and preservation activities that improve access to collections.
- Providing responsive support and guidance to researchers, students and community members accessing archival resources.
- Contributing to exhibitions, displays and promotional activities that showcase JCU's collections, history and heritage.
- Assisting with grant and donor reporting, collection documentation and collection development initiatives.
- Supporting continuous improvement projects that enhance library services, accessibility and user experiences.
What you'll bring
We're looking for someone who is passionate about information services, cultural collections and helping others access knowledge.
You will have:
- Experience delivering high-quality information, library or client services.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills with the ability to work effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
- Experience providing information, reference or help desk support, ideally within a library, research or academic environment.
- An understanding of, or experience working with, cultural, archival or special collection materials.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail, particularly when managing records and information resources.
- Confidence using digital technologies and information systems.
