    Job Description:

    About This Opportunity

Join a visionary and collaborative research environment within the School of Chemical Engineering, where ambitious ideas are translated into technologies that matter. In this role you will support a cutting-edge research project developing a novel electrochemical system that converts CO₂ adsorption into usable electrical energy. You will be working alongside leading academics and industry collaborators and contribute to advancing scalable clean energy technologies that address global decarbonisation challenges.

    Key responsibilities will include:

    • Research: Establish and progress a focused research program aligned with electrochemical energy systems, including leading experimental work on electrochemical cell and electrolyser design, device scale-up, stack development, performance testing and optimisation. Publish quality research outputs in high-impact outlets, contribute to competitive research funding applications, apply best-practice research methodologies, and support translation of knowledge and technology, including commercialisation of UQ intellectual property.

    • Supervision and Researcher Development: Contribute to the supervision and development of Honours and Higher Degree by Research students, providing effective feedback, mentoring and professional development. Support positive research culture through responsible conduct of research and collaborative supervision practices.

    • Citizenship and Service: Demonstrate citizenship behaviours aligned to UQ values by actively participating in School and University activities, contributing to committees and administrative processes as required, supporting colleagues, and beginning to build external partnerships with industry, government and the wider community.

    • Teaching: Participate in undergraduate or postgraduate teaching as required, delivering high‑quality learning outcomes and responding to student feedback.

This is a research focused position. Further information can be found by viewing UQ’s Criteria for Academic Performance.

    About You

    • Completion or near completion of a PhD in chemical engineering, electrochemistry, electrochemical engineering or a closely related discipline.

    • An emerging research profile, including publications in reputable refereed journals and conference presentations.

    • A strong background in electrochemistry, electrochemical engineering, or related clean energy technologies.

    • Hands-on experience with electrochemical device design and testing, such as electrolysers, fuel cells, flow batteries or membrane electrochemical systems.

    • Experience scaling electrochemical systems from laboratory-scale cells to larger single-cell or multi-cell configurations.

    • Practical skills in electrochemical characterisation, including techniques such as EIS, LSV, CV, chronoamperometry and stability testing.

    • Demonstrated ability to work independently, troubleshoot experimental systems, collaborate effectively, and communicate clearly with academic and industry partners.

    About UQ
