    Research Officer - The Kirby Institute

    • Employment Type: Full - time (35 hours a week)
    • Duration: 12 Months Fixed Term contract
    • Remuneration: $103,866 base, plus 17% superannuation and leave loading
    • Work rights required: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Candidates must hold full rights to work in Australia to be considered for this position.

    Details of the role

    A Research Officer is responsible for the effective support and coordination of research projects in the fields of viral hepatitis and health of people who use drugs. The research officer will support and coordinate impactful research providing analytical and operational support to a diverse portfolio of projects. In this role, you’ll contribute to study design, data analysis, reporting, and the preparation of grants and submissions, while ensuring projects meet key milestones. There will be a strong focus on quantitative data analysis using statistical software such as Stata or R to generate high-quality reports. You will also contribute to data linkage activities and support senior academics with ethics applications, developing clear visualisations and graphs for presentations and research outputs.

    The RO will work across multiple projects that include (but are not limited to) surveillance, surveys, behavioural research and design, monitoring and evaluation programs, clinical trials, projects and interventions to address health issues. You’ll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and external partners to turn data into insights that inform policy and improve community health outcomes.     The role reports to the Senior Research Officer and has no direct reports.

    Some key skills required:

    • Relevant qualification and previous research project management or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through a combination of education, training, or experience
    • Demonstrated experience and proficiency in quantitative data analysis including good working knowledge on data management and analysis using statistical software programs
    • Demonstrated proficiency using statistical software such as STATA or R to manage and analyse large databases will be highly regarded
    • Knowledge of research protocols, experimental design and planning as involved in developing research projects and reporting against milestones
    • Manage the technical aspects of linked databases, including coordinating and executing data cleaning, data management processes, and ensuring research integrity
    • Perform quantitative data analyses as required by the research project
    • Demonstrated superior interpersonal communication skills to initiate and maintain effective stakeholder relationships whilst exercising discretion and confidentiality
    • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively within a team, but also to take initiative and work independently while managing competing demands
