Adelaide University and the Northern Adelaide Local Health Network (NALHN) are seeking a proactive and enthusiastic Chair of Medicine for a joint academic and clinical appointment.
This is an exceptional opportunity for a senior academic to provide leadership in clinical teaching for the School of Medicine at the Lyell McEwin and Modbury hospitals. The successful applicant will have a strong track record in teaching, research and clinical practice, with ability to provide leadership in medical education.

The successful candidate will primarily be based at the Lyell McEwin and Modbury Hospitals, contributing to the delivery of clinical teaching across NALHN, while overseeing junior medical staff. Moreover, they will play a pivotal role in advancing teaching, research, and service development within the School of Medicine and NALHN.

The team
The appointee will report to the Academic Lead, Northern and Community Health for the School of Medicine and the Divisional Director (Medical) at the Northern Adelaide Local Health Network.
This role encompasses clinical leadership, academic support, and administrative responsibilities across both institutions, requiring a commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and clinical practice.

Experience

Key responsibilities for Adelaide University will broadly include:
- Provide leadership in teaching and research within the Discipline of Medicine.
- Continuous improvement in student evaluations of learning and teaching at NALHN.
- Liaise and communicate with relevant sections of the community, professional associations and government organisations.
- Promoting a culture of teaching and research excellence and evidence of innovation.
- Contribution to the development of the medical program.
- Submit applications for external research income including Cat 1 funding and secure ongoing financial support to sustain the research with an expectation of holding at least one Cat 1 grant as CIA at any one time.
Key responsibilities for the Northern Adelaide Local Health Network will broadly include:
- Provision of training and supervision to undergraduate and post graduate medical trainees.
- Provide academic leadership to the Division of Medicine in NALHN.
- Encouraging and supporting multi-disciplinary teamwork amongst staff for optimal clinical service outcomes.
To be successful you will need to meet the following Selection Criteria:
- A PhD or equivalent.
- Relevant experience in clinical education/training of medical students in teaching hospitals.
- Specialist medical qualification and registration with AHPRA enabling clinical practice.
- Demonstrated understanding of the needs of medical students, including international students.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain excellent working relationships with senior and junior medical staff and other health professionals in hospitals and the community, the University and wider community.
- Passionate and unequivocal commitment to excellence in research and education and the demonstrated capacity to lead and motivate others.
- Strong communication and persuasion skills leading to proven favourable outcomes.
- Commitment to the principles of collegiality and to equity and diversity.
- Exemplary personal qualities of integrity, energy, tenacity and judgement.
