    • Participation in a rotating weekend roster, with penalty rates applicable
    • Salary Range: (HEO4) $73,961 to $81,067 plus 17% superannuation
    • Work in a dynamic small animal veterinary hospital environment

    We are recruiting for multiple experienced Veterinary Nurses with sound technical skills in areas such as surgery, emergency, internal medicine or general practice, to deliver high-quality patient care, clinical assistance, and student learning support within the Small Animal Hospital. Opportunities are available within both our General Practice Nursing stream and our Surgery Nursing stream, with teams working closely together to support hospital operations and continuity of patient care.

    Work that matters

    As a Small Animal Veterinary Nurse, you will provide high-quality nursing support across general practice consultations, procedures, treatments, and surgeries within the Small Animal Hospital. This role operates across a rotating weekend roster to support the delivery of continuous patient care and hospital services.

    You will play an important role in patient care, anaesthesia and imaging preparation, treatment implementation, and client communication, while supporting safe and effective clinical delivery in line with hospital standards across medical, surgical, dental, diagnostic, and emergency services.

    Working collaboratively with veterinarians, students, client relations, and administrative teams, you will contribute to clinical teaching and student learning through practical supervision and mentoring, while supporting the smooth day-to-day operation of the hospital through best-practice hygiene, animal housing, equipment maintenance, biosecurity, and safety procedures.


    Positions are available within both the General Practice Nursing team and the Surgery Nursing team. Nurses within the General Practice stream will support consultations, treatments, preventative care, and day-to-day patient management, while nurses within the Surgery stream will focus on perioperative patient care, surgical preparation, anaesthesia support, and recovery nursing. Both teams work collaboratively and provide operational support and back-up to one another to ensure seamless patient care across the hospital.

    This role sits within the Roseworthy Veterinary Hospital team in the College of Science and reports to the Team Lead. The team works collaboratively to deliver high-quality veterinary services to clients and referring veterinarians while supporting clinical teaching and learning outcomes across the University community.

    Experience

    To join our community and thrive in this role, you will likely have the following skills and experience:

    Qualifications

    • Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing, or a Bachelor of Veterinary Technology, together with a minimum of two years’ relevant veterinary nursing experience.

    Experience

    • Experience in veterinary nursing with sound technical skills in areas such as surgery, emergency, internal medicine or general practice
    • Experience working in a clinical setting maintaining best practices
    • Experience with practice management software
    • Experience providing supervision and/or training to students
    • Experience applying Occupational Health and Safety and biosecurity protocols
    • Experience working independently and as part of a team in a dynamic hospital environment
    • Ability to participate in a rotational weekend roster
