Macquarie University is seeking an experienced IT Architect and Strategy director to define, develop and implement the next phase of strategic direction for University technology systems. This significant leadership role is ideal for a person with deep experience in enterprise architecture, strategic technology planning and is looking for a unique opportunity to reframe the enterprise architecture function. This key senior leadership role will align the University’s mission and goals with best practice technology strategies, ensuring our IT landscape empowers education, research, and innovation.
About the Role
As the Director, IT Strategy and Architecture, you will take ownership of the end-to-end enterprise IT architecture, providing key direction into the University’s digital transformation and operational direction. You will lead the Strategy and Architecture team in crafting holistic and forward-thinking IT strategies, roadmaps, and governance frameworks, ensuring alignment with the University's mission and strategic objectives.
This role offers a unique opportunity to:
- Re-define the architecture function as part of the MQIT transformation to Product-based operations that is underway
- Provide vision, technical, and managerial leadership to establish robust and scalable enterprise capabilities.
- Develop and maintain an integrated architectural framework encompassing business processes, applications, data, and infrastructure.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to deliver technology solutions that drive innovation and efficiency.
- Join the MQIT senior leadership team to shape the culture of collaboration, growth, and excellence within the IT portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and execution of the enterprise IT strategy and architecture roadmap in collaboration with the CIDO and IT senior leaders.
- Establish and govern architecture frameworks, standards, and processes to support strategic alignment and operational efficiency.
- Drive innovation by evaluating emerging technologies and their potential to enhance the University’s mission.
- Build and maintain an overarching cybersecurity and disaster recovery framework in partnership with the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) and Chief Technology Officer (CTO).
- Foster relationships across the University community to identify technology needs and advise on opportunities for innovation.
- Promote a high-performing, inclusive, and values-driven culture within the IT portfolio.
What We Are Looking For
We are looking for a dynamic leader with:
- A postgraduate degree in computer science, enterprise architecture, or a related field.
- Extensive experience in IT strategy and enterprise architecture, with at least five years in a senior leadership role within a complex organization.
- Formal accreditation in IT Architecture, such as TOGAF
- Expertise in designing and implementing enterprise IT solutions, as well as managing large-scale transformation programs.
- Strong knowledge of emerging technologies, regulatory considerations, and best practices in IT governance and risk management.
- Exceptional communication and change management skills, with the ability to influence and inspire diverse stakeholders.
- A collaborative and results-oriented mindset, capable of navigating complex challenges and delivering impactful outcomes.
