The School of Natural Sciences is looking to appoint a Level A (Associate Lecturer) Teaching and Research Academic in the field of Evolutionary and Developmental Biology. This is a 4-year fixed-term position (replacing staff on secondment) aimed at growing and strengthening research in these fields.
Key strengths of the School of Natural Sciences include access to a world class wildlife research facility, allowing for the use of Australian wildlife models for investigating key questions in evolutionary and developmental biology, as well as world class multi-omics, molecular biology, and tissue culture facilities in modern purpose-built research laboratories.
The successful applicant will also help to train the next generation of biological and biomedical scientists through undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and supervision, with ample opportunities to build their career as a balanced academic. The School is particularly interested in researchers with a capacity for and interest in teaching into the field of evolutionary medicine. Courses relevant to this position include the Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Medical Science.

Essential Criteria
A PhD in Evolutionary Biology or a closely related discipline in the biological sciences
Demonstrated track record of research excellence in developmental and evolutionary biology as evidenced by high quality publications, awards, fellowships, and/or competitive grant funding
Demonstrated capacity to use cutting edge techniques in developmental biology and genomics, such as single cell transcriptomics or pan-genomics
Capacity to apply for and secure competitive research funding
Developing a network of relationships with international collaborators
Demonstrated track record or ability to teach genetics and evolutionary medicine, including laboratory-based practical classes, tutorials, and lecture delivery
Excellent time management, written and oral communication skills, and collegiality
Evidence of service and leadership, to your discipline, academia, and the wider community
Salary package: From $106,089 (Level A, Step 6) to $113,697 (Level A, Step 8) per annum, plus 17% employer superannuation. Appointment level will be determined based on successful candidate’s experience and skills.
Appointment Type: Full-time, fixed term for a period of 4 years (replacement for a secondment).
