PRIMARY DETAIL

THE ROLE

Applications are warmly invited for the position of Behaviour Specialist Teacher at the Macquarie University Special Education Centre (MUSEC). Reporting to the Principal of MUSEC School, you will contribute to the learning and development of primary aged students with special learning needs, you will work closely with Speech Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Sports Coaches and Classroom Assistants in designing, delivering and assessing educational programs. The role will require the applicant to work across and in classrooms developing and implementing Support Plans for students. 

The Behaviour Specialist Teacher is a skilled special education teaching practitioner, who has worked with children with behaviours of concern in a classroom setting for at least 5 years. The teacher will  a strong teaching background and a highly developed understanding of disability and behaviour within the scope of curriculum, individual education programs and required adjustments.

The role will work closely with our team of Special Education Teachers, to support and enhance practice with our students with disabilities and challenging behaviours. Experience working with Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) would be an advantage.

ABOUT YOU

Accredited with the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA), you will have a recognised teaching qualification and/or working towards completion of a Special Education qualification. You are an experienced and skilled practitioner, with a strong teaching background and understanding of disability and behaviour within a primary school classroom environment.

Working within a supportive and collaborative teaching environment, the MUSEC classroom team structure comprises of Special Education Teachers, Classroom Assistants, Speech and Language Pathologists, an Occupational Therapist and Sports coach.

  • Recognised Teaching qualification in primary Education

  • Recognised as a Behaviour Support Practitioner

  • Accredited with the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA)

  • A Special Education qualification (or currently studying towards completion)

  • Demonstrated teaching experience in primary classroom environments for at least 5 years

  • Demonstrated experience working with children with behaviours of concern for at least 5 years

  • Proven skills and experience using data to understand behaviours of concern

  • Excellent communication skills, with an ability to relate to students, parents, external providers and staff from all backgrounds

  • Demonstrated experience working in a collaborative teaching environment, including building effective working relationships with team members

  • Understanding of NCCD and adjustments

  • Proven ability to develop, write, implement and assess comprehensive Behaviour Support Plans for children based on ongoing data collection

  • Excellent report writing
