PRIMARY DETAIL

Join a high performing technical team to be the specialist in managing & maintaining cloud-based systems with a focus on Kubernetes.

• From $108,391 to $117,519 (HEW Level 7), plus 17% employer's superannuation contribution and annual leave loading.
• Full time, continuing role. Based at Wallumattagal campus, North Ryde.
• High performing team. Hybrid working arrangement.

Technology Services is responsible for providing the ongoing “Business as Usual” management and support activities associated with infrastructure, platforms and technologies managed by MQ IT, both on-prem and in the cloud.

As a Technology Specialist (Cloud Operations), you will play a crucial role in managing and maintaining cloud-based systems, with a focus on Kubernetes. Your responsibilities will include ensuring the availability, scalability, and reliability of cloud services while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Kubernetes Administration:

  • Deploy, configure, and manage Kubernetes clusters.
  • Monitor cluster health, troubleshoot issues, and optimize performance.
  • Implement security best practices for Kubernetes environments.

Infrastructure Management:

  • Work with cloud providers (e.g., AWS, Azure) to provision and manage resources.
  • Set up networking, storage, and compute components.
  • Automate infrastructure tasks using tools like Terraform or Ansible.

Incident Response and Troubleshooting:

  • Respond to incidents promptly, diagnose root causes, and implement corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with Applications and Operations teams to resolve issues affecting cloud services.

Continuous Integration and Deployment (CI/CD):

  • Participate in CI/CD pipeline development for application deployment.
  • Ensure smooth releases and updates using Git, ArgoCD, or other CI/CD tools.

Monitoring and Metrics:

  • Set up monitoring solutions (e.g., Prometheus) to track system performance.
  • Create alerts and dashboards for proactive issue detection.

Documentation and Knowledge Sharing:

  • Document processes, configurations, and troubleshooting steps.
  • Share knowledge with team members and contribute to internal documentation.

About You

You are an experienced IT professional with strong understanding of Kubernetes fundamentals (nodes, pods, services, deployments, Helm, etc.) and experience in deploying and managing Kubernetes clusters in production environments.

You will have knowledge of IT service management concepts and experience with their application in an enterprise work environment supporting both cloud (e.g. AWS, Azure) and hybrid on-premises infrastructure configurations. In addition, you will have knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and version control systems as well as Linux skills and understanding of network fundamentals. Familiarity with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Podman, JIB) is required to perform well in this role.

You will be an effective communicator with strong written and verbal communications skills to build and maintain collaborative relationships with team members, clients and stakeholders. You are a quick problem solver and a natural team player with the ability to coach more junior members of the team.

  • Tertiary qualification in IT or a related field and/or equivalent knowledge, skills and experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience as a subject matter expert in infrastructure design and support functions, processes and procedures, particularly in relation into their application support requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following infrastructure development and support capabilities including requirements analysis, design, build and configuration, test, change management and training, release management, monitoring, tuning, and maintenance, particularly CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience in incident response, resolution and post incident analysis of major incidents.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills including the ability to analyse and interpret requirements and information from numerous sources.
  • Proven experience in documenting operational support procedures.
