Research Assistant

The Centre for Health Systems and Safety Research (CHSSR), within the Australian Institute of Health Innovation is seeking an enthusiastic research assistant with strong writing and communication skills to support the work of our Centre.

THE ROLE

• Salary Package: (HEW 5) $80,753 - $91,815 plus 17% employer's superannuation and annual leave loading. Pro-rata rates apply for part-time appointments.

• Appointment type: Full-time or part-time fixed-term position, for 12 months (with the possibility of extension)

• Macquarie University (North Ryde) location

About the Role

We are seeking talented and enthusiastic research assistant to support the work of the Centre. The role will involve a range of research support activities including, support in preparation of ethics applications, grant applications, presentations, internal and external meetings and workshops; performance of narrative and systematic literature reviews; data collection activities; formatting of manuscripts for submission; preparation of research summaries for the media. The successful applicant will work within the Health Analytics and Patient Safety steam. They will liaise with a range of academics, research and administrative staff as well as external stakeholders from all areas of the health sector.

You will have a background in a health-related field with strong writing skills and be able to contribute to research papers. You will enjoy working both independently and as part of a team.

The Centre for Health Systems and Safety Research, one of the core research centres within AIHI has a multi-stream program of research which focuses on investigating the outcomes and safety of health services. The Centre has particular expertise in assessing the impact of information technologies and investigating the role of electronic health records and decision support in supporting improved health care delivery and health outcomes in hospitals, primary care and aged and community care. The Centre’s research team is multi-disciplinary and applies a broad range of research techniques, from RCT designs to direct observational studies of clinical work.

Essential criteria:

• An undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., public health, clinical science, epidemiology, psychology)

• Demonstrated skills and experience in conducting literature reviews, including the design of appropriate search strategies for interrogating online databases such as PubMed

• Demonstrable skills in MS Office software applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Endnote

• Good organisational skills and attention to detail with a demonstrated capacity to multi-task, meet tight deadlines and manage time effectively

• Excellent oral and written, inter-personal and team communication skills

• Knowledge of the Australian Health Care System

• Ability to understand and comply with the statutory privacy and ethical requirements for research and experience in preparing human research ethics applications

Desirable criteria:

• Experience in systematic reviews and meta-analyses

• Experience with statistical software packages

• Post graduate qualifications, particularly those with a research focus (e.g., Honours, MRes, MPH) in the area of health

• Experience in the healthcare sector
