PRIMARY DETAIL

• Salary package: Level A, from $102,501 (Step 6) to $109,852 (Step 8) p.a. plus 17% employer superannuation and annual leave loading.
• Appointment Type: Full-time, 3 year fixed-term
• Location: Macquarie University (Wallumattagal Campus, North Ryde)

THE ROLE

An excellent opportunity exists for a researcher in the Australian Proteomics Analysis Facility (APAF) and the School of Natural Sciences at Macquarie University, Sydney. We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with Glycomics analytical experience to contribute to establishing N- and O-glycan analysis in APAF and establishing and applying new methodologies for glycomics analysis in relevant research projects in the university.

You will be a part of a team consisting of researchers in proteomics, glycomics and bioinformatics. You will report to Prof. Nicki Packer and will:

  • Contribute to the research and development of experimental methods, techniques and/or technologies in the broad spectrum of glycoconjugate analysis (glycomics);

  • Implement established and new glycoanalytical procedures;

  • Prepare samples, collect data, and provide expert data analysis and interpretation for a specialist stream of clients and collaborators;

  • Undertake complex instrument troubleshooting and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment;

  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders;

  • Mentor postgraduate students working on projects;

  • Write high-quality manuscripts for publication;

This is an excellent opportunity for an early career researcher to conduct impactful research, learn from specialist expertise in mass spectrometry based proteomics and bioinformatics to complement glycomics research, author high-quality publications and be involved in a diverse range of glycomics research projects and new method development. Selection Criteria

Essential

  • A PhD in science with a focus on glycomics analysis

  • Demonstrated skills in mass spectrometry and molecular data analysis

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with students, staff, and other stakeholders

  • Ability to manage time effectively and work to deadlines

  • Demonstrated capacity to work independently and as part of a team

Desirable

  • Experience working with different analytical instruments

  • Experience supervising and/or providing mentorship to higher degree research students

  • Ability to work with animal and human tissue samples
