PRIMARY DETAIL

• Two full-time, ongoing Teaching and Research positions available

THE ROLE

We are seeking to appoint two exceptional Mechanical Engineering academics with well-established research track records, and who have a profound passion for teaching. The ideal candidates will be renowned in their respective fields of research and whose research interests align with one of our current areas of research strength, including advanced materials and manufacturing, energy and decarbonization, and health technologies.

Both candidates will possess deep disciplinary knowledge in the areas of Mechanical Engineering and contribute to the teaching needs of the School of Engineering at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Applicants applying for the more senior level will be expected to provide leadership and mentorship within the School for the ongoing development of the Mechanical Engineering discipline, leveraging their standing in the field to provide a focal point for the future development of mechanical and other relevant disciplines at Macquarie University.

The School of Engineering  (SOE, MQ) is at the forefront of Engineering education nationally and internationally and is undergoing a significant transformation. This includes the construction of a $150 million education and research precinct that will be the school's home.

As part of the Faculty of Science and Engineering (FSE) we nurture the next generation of science and technology innovators with nearly 9000 students across all our programs. Our research and teaching address the big issues faced by society in Australia and globally—the changing environment, future materials and fuels and biotechnology, to name a few.

Essential criteria for appointment at Lecturer (Level B)/Senior Lecturer (Level C)

  • Candidate must have a PhD in Mechanical Engineering or related areas.

  • Demonstrated capacity to conduct outstanding research that aligns with the research strength of Macquarie University’s School of Engineering, as evidenced by for example by publications in top-tier journals.

  • Demonstrated ability to secure research grant support from external funding agencies, such as being the chief investigator of competitive government research grants, industrial funding, or research fellowships. 

  • Demonstrated ability to successfully supervise graduate and HDR students and mentor research students and early career researchers.

  • Demonstrate a deep passion for teaching. Ability to teach a wide range of courses/units that span Mechanical Engineering discipline (Solid/fluid mechanics, Engineering Dynamics), and/or Materials and Manufacturing Engineering. Relevant teaching experience in postgraduate level courses are desired.

  • Willingness to make a substantial contribution to all activities of the School, including in service and leadership.

  • Outstanding communication skills including the ability to work effectively and collaboratively with key internal and external stakeholders.

Additional essential criteria for appointment at Associate Professor (Level D)

  • Demonstrated and sustained track record of attracting large scale external research funding as a lead CI.

  • Demonstrated leadership in the strategic direction of learning, teaching and curriculum development at the undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels.

  • Demonstrated track record of significant senior and administrative roles with clear demonstrated outcomes.

  • Demonstrated professional leadership qualities and willingness for executive administrative responsibilities.

  • Sustained track record of attracting and on time completion of higher degree research (HDR) students a Principal Supervisor.

Salary Package: Please indicate your preference (Level of appointment) in your application. Commencing salaries will be commensurate with qualifications and relevant experience and align with the Macquarie University’s Academic Staff Enterprise Agreement 2023 and includes 17% employer’s superannuation.
