About the position
This position is in the Enabling Programs team, part of the Widening Participation and Outreach department within the Office of the Provost. Widening Participation and Outreach is responsible for activities and programs that inform post-secondary school aspiration and access to university students from educationally disadvantaged backgrounds, and Enabling Programs is the academic unit that supports university entry for aspiring students without a traditional entry pathway. The team delivers the Tertiary Preparation Program (TPP), one of Victoria’s major Enabling Programs, as an ATAR-alternative pathway program for school students (Aspire Prepare) and plays a key role in supporting the University’s equity mission.
Reporting to the Lecturer, Enabling Programs, the Associate Lecturer, Enabling Programs, works with another Associate Lecturer and casual academic staff to deliver teaching and support in the Tertiary Preparation Program, a pre degree Fee Free Uni Ready program, and the Aspire Prepare program. The incumbent is responsible for teaching and grading, subject maintenance and rollover, and taking part in Zoom catchups with students as well as orientation sessions.
The academic programs (TPP and Prepare) are taught entirely online. The subjects are asynchronous but intensively taught, using supportive and scaffolded developmental feedback on frequent, low stakes assessments to develop learner confidence and academic skills. Experience in an innovative online learning environment will be highly valued.
Selection Criteria
To be considered for this position, you will have:
- Completion of a Bachelor’s degree in the relevant discipline, and evidence of participation in higher level study relevant to discipline or professional area.
- Demonstrated ability to be effective in teaching and curriculum development, preferably in online modes, as evidenced by, for example, high results on student feedback on teaching surveys relative to their peers, or through other forms of evidence.
- Evidence of innovative initiatives undertaken in the last three years that have improved the student experience. Experience working with students from educationally disadvantaged backgrounds will be highly valued.
- Ability to engage with the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning.
- Effective oral and written communication skills, including the ability to interact effectively, collaboratively and productively with staff and students from a diverse range of backgrounds.
- Demonstrated ability to work as a team member in a collaborative and collegial manner.
