- Full-time (1.0 FTE) appointment, on a fixed term basis (1/2/025-31/1/2026).
- Base salary range: $112,114 – $122,544 p.a. plus 17% superannuation.
About the area
The ICPMS platform is one of the main UWA facilities for advanced geochemical research and houses an array of cutting-edge instrumentation. This includes two high precision multi-collector ICPMS, a recently installed collision cell ICPMS, high resolution ICPMS and two excimer laser ablation systems. The ICPMS platform also houses an ultra-clean laboratory dedicated to geochemical sample processing and purification. The facility supports internal and external users from a broad range of scientific fields including geochemistry, environmental sciences, biogeochemistry, and material sciences. It also provides support to various commercial and collaborative projects in areas of mining, oil and gas, environmental monitoring, and remediation.
About the opportunity
- You will, provide research and technical support to the ICPMS platform, respond to complex and diverse enquiries using your expertise and judgement to independently analyse and solve problems.
- Be an integral part of the CMCA staff team and will help to develop cross-platform connections to improve support of geochemistry-focused projects at CMCA.
- You will be instrumental in establishing support for geochemical projects at the platform with a particular focus on ultra-clean laboratory operations and the development of novel analytical methods in isotope geochemistry.
About you
- PhD in geochemistry or in a related discipline.
- Proven experience in independent analyses of geochemical samples using high precision inorganic isotope ratio mass spectrometry: MC-ICPMS (e.g. 87Sr/86Sr analysis).
- Experience in collision cell mass spectrometry: CC-ICPMS.
- Experience in developing novel analytical techniques in mass spectrometry for geochemical analyses.
- Strong knowledge and proven practical experience in in-situ, laser ablation ICPMS analysis (trace metals or isotopes analyses).
Note:
After hours and weekend work may be required. Occasional interstate travel may also be required.
