Why Your Role Matters:

UNSW Library is one of Australia’s major research libraries, supporting a large and diverse community of academic and research staff, students, and affiliated institutes. Serving 3 million in-person visitors and 20 million online interactions annually, the Library features world-class collections, services, and facilities across three sites, with close collaboration with the Academy Library - UNSW Canberra at the Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA).

The Learning Services Librarian plays a pivotal role in delivering high-quality support to meet the evolving needs of students, staff, and stakeholders. This role focuses on assisting clients with complex information finding and searching, providing expert judgment in managing competing priorities, and ensuring effective outcomes in a fast-paced environment. The position contributes to fostering a collaborative, client-centered culture within the Learning Services team while working closely with colleagues across Library units and the University.

Reporting to the Library Learning Services Team Coordinator, this role provides enhanced information support to UNSW clients through information finding and searching.

Who You Are:

The ideal candidate will have skills and experience as follows:

  • Completion of a library degree or equivalent level of knowledge gained through any other combination of education, training, or experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in the provision of consistent high quality and effective client services.
  • The ability to apply judgement and problem-solving skills to make operational decisions on the provision of resources and services within strict timeframes and with overlapping priorities.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills, including written and oral communication, with the ability to effectively liaise and communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to supervise and be responsible for monitoring the day-to-day operations of the Library Learning Services team – including setting priorities and meeting service standards.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health & safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.

Within your application, you should include a cover letter addressing the following role priorities:

  • Your experience in assisting clients with complex information finding and searching (ideally within a higher education context).
  • How your education, training, or experience has prepared you to deliver consistent, high-quality client services in a library or similar setting.
  • Examples of your ability to apply judgement and problem-solving skills to make operational decisions.

How to Apply:

Please submit your CV and a Cover Letter (two pages maximum) addressing the role priorities (as above)
