About This Opportunity
The Principal, Communications and Engagement helps initiate, plan and project-manage digital and social communications, content, and facilitation of media opportunities across the Faculty for reputation and research initiatives.
This is a part-time, 2-days per week role working within the communications stream of the BEL Faculty Marketing and Engagement team. You will work collaboratively alongside the marketing and events areas as a seamless unit to deliver content, campaigns and communication initiatives in line with UQ, Faculty and stakeholder strategic objectives.
Key responsibilities will include:
Initiate and provide strategic communication recommendations, advice and support to the Faculty, its business units and schools, and the central communications team.
Develop and manage targeted communications strategies, including e-communications and newsletters, written content, social media and print initiatives that strengthen relationships and collaborations with stakeholders, students and key external audiences.
Project manage the delivery of the ongoing communications and content strategy, plans and reporting across digital and engagement channels, ensuring you help support and disseminate targeted, timely and engaging stories and content.
Identify and triage staff, student and alumni talent; newsworthy research and Faculty opportunities to assist the central communications team to target news media on areas of strategic priority to BEL and UQ to enhance reputation, research and recruitment. Produce, contribute and edit copy for school, Faculty and University marketing materials including, but not limited to websites, web articles, newsletters and magazines.
Maintain quality assurance standards and ensure all marketing and communication material and content are accurate and complies with UQ standards.
Maintain high-quality data governance to ensure all data used in communication activities is up-to-date and complies with UQ standards, industry best practices and legal requirements.
Build productive relationships to proactively and collaboratively identify opportunities to profile the university, students, alums, research, projects, partnerships, academics and staff.
Provide reports, statistics and timely information on communication and engagement activities to the Manager, Communications; Senior Manager, Marketing and Engagement and key BEL Faculty leadership team.

About You
Degree in marketing or communications, or a relevant discipline and extensive relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education/training.
Demonstrated experience in designing and successfully executing strategic corporate communications for an organisation.
A high level of organisational skills, including the ability to independently prioritise competing work demands and an ability to identify and initiate improvements to business practices.
Demonstrated ability to write engagingly for target audiences using a variety of mediums, including web, print, social media and earned media.
A high level of interpersonal and oral communication skills including the ability to negotiate, provide advice and liaise with a wide range of individuals.
Impeccable grammar, attention to detail and proven editing experience. Proven ability to identify talent and angles for news media, with success in landing stories in quality national outlets.
Ability to work collaboratively in a complex and large organisation, and proven experience managing stakeholder relations.
Ability to use sound judgment, act independently and take initiative with minimal direction, and work effectively as part of a management team.
The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including: right to work in Australia, criminal check, education check, etc.
