About the opportunity

Southern Cross Analytical Research Services (SCARS) at Southern Cross University provides commercial and research analytical services through two key teams: Environmental Analysis Laboratory (EAL) and Analytical Research Laboratory (ARL).

The EAL offers a range of testing procedures, specialising in agricultural plant and soil, environmental and contaminant, acid sulfate soil and rock, compost, potting mix, and landscape soil, hair, water and wastewater testing.

The ARL plays a key role in providing the private and public sector with a range of phytochemical analytical services and quality testing of pharmaceutical raw materials and products to satisfy regulatory requirements.

The SCARS team is seeking an Administration Assistant to provide a broad range of integral administrative support to these teams. The role will be primarily based in EAL. Your core responsibilities will include:

  • Receipt commercial and research sample information into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
  • Respond to client enquiries and redirect or assist as required, receipt payments, collate and file documents.
  • Liaise with external laboratories regarding results, invoicing and accounts.
  • Organise, package and courier samples to external laboratories and sampling kits to clients; manage equipment hire.
About you

You will have strong attention to detail and excellent customer service skills, with the ability to work in a close team environment. This is not your typical administration role; you will have the unique opportunity to collaborate with our research scientists. More specifically, you will have:

  • Experience and in general office and computer-based administration systems, including Microsoft Office Suite. 
  • Willingness to learn and perform sample logging using a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
  • Readiness to wear a lab coat and embrace hands-on tasks in a lab setting.
  • Capacity to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with good oral and written communication
Salary and benefits

Our staff benefit from flexible work arrangements, including generous parental and carer’s leave provisions, wellbeing initiatives, employee assistance programs and professional learning opportunities. These positions are:

  • One full-time (35 hours per week) and one part-time position available; fixed-term (7 months).
  • Located at Lismore, NSW 2480.
  • HEW Level 3. The base salary ranges from $65,762 - $71,756 per annum, plus 17% employer’s contribution to superannuation. The total remuneration package is up to $83,954.52.
