About This Opportunity  

The University of Queensland’s user and stakeholder needs are evolving, with our web presence needing to evolve to meet these needs. As Content Designer, you are responsible for creating, updating and reviewing content for the web. Working alongside a team of content specialists, you’ll write high-quality content that meets user needs and supports the implementation of the UQ Content Strategy.

Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: 

  • Work to develop core content (working with other marketing and communication teams, such as Analytics and UX, to determine the the best way to meet user needs) for UQ websites that supports agreed business goals and user needs.

  • Advocate for best practice in content development with reference to the digital behaviour of stakeholders, including developing and delivering training to the wider content authoring community.

  • Write, edit and review high-quality written content for websites and campaigns in line with UQ’s written style guide and digital tone of voice for brand.

  • Act as an advisor and editor, while working closely with business areas and subject matter experts, to deliver stakeholder-centred content.

  • Review, edit and approve for publication content produced by content creators across the university.

  • Develop well structured, accurate and accessible digital content in line with legal and regulatory guidelines as well as usability principles.

  • Undertake content research and development including briefing, writing, sourcing, reviewing and coordinating all new content to keep key channels up to date and ensure the content continues to meet user needs.

About You

Our ideal candidate has a strong background in writing and also understands how users engage with online content. You’ll be comfortable working with specialists from other areas, including UI, UX, marketing and communication, and you’ll have experience working with internal stakeholders. Most of all, we’re looking for someone who is curious, can deliver high- quality work and can manage the complexities of working in a large organisation.

  • Undergraduate or honours qualification in communication, journalism, writing or a related field; or an equivalent combination of experience and/or education/training.

  • Demonstrated experience writing and editing content, including an aptitude for translating jargon-heavy and complex information into simple, usable language. 

  • Great attention to detail, including an ability to check content for style, sense and correct use of HTML tags. 

  • Strong planning and organisational skills, including an ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines. 

  • Effective interpersonal skills with an ability to communicate clearly with subject matter experts, technical staff and university stakeholders at all levels. 

  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and challenging situations. 

  • Ability to help your team by taking initiative and prioritising your own work. 

  • Familiarity with content management systems such as Drupal, accessibility standards, basic HTML tags and digital best practice. 

  • Broad knowledge of digital marketing and social media content, including targeted content. 

The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including right to work in Australia and a criminal check.
