Why Your Role Matters:
The Head of Change Management leads the EPMO Centre of Excellence (CoE) in change and manages the organisational Change Management Practice within the UNSW Enterprise Portfolio Management Office (EPMO) for the University, employing best practice change management methods. This role is pivotal in setting the standards and providing leadership in change management and expert advice for organisational readiness and ensuring that the university's change capacity is adequately considered when making decisions regarding new strategic investments.

As the Head of Change Management, you will be responsible for developing methods, techniques, and tools that create high-quality, consistent, and effective organisational readiness throughout the project lifecycle. You will also build capability across the university through the Change Management CoE and leading communities of practice, including engagement forums.

The Head of Change Management reports to the Director, Transformation and EPMO and has direct reports and manages a pool of change professionals to support the delivery of programs and projects across the university.

Responsibilities Summary:

  • Proactively engage with university leaders and stakeholders to build and drive awareness of the UNSW EPMO Change Management CoE.
  • Build and manage the enterprise view of change impacts across university initiatives, identifying cross-faculty / divisional impacts and interdependencies arising from the change management portfolio.
  • Lead the development and analysis of change updates and for EPMO governance and reporting.
  • Provide thought leadership and change management advice for complex organisational change needs, actively collaborating with Faculty and Divisional Leaders to identify change approaches that support a holistic enterprise view of change.
  • Recruit, lead, coach and manage a team of change professionals to drive a successful implementation, engagement, consultation, adoption, management and realisation of benefits for the programs of work and initiatives across the university.
  • Review business cases to ensure change impacts and resourcing have been captured, considered and communicated to key stakeholders prior to being submitted through the planning governance process.
  • Build the UNSW EPMO change management CoE through leading the implementation of a pragmatic a approach to project change management while leading the design of change management tools, templates and communities of practice.
  • Support projects scope out their plan and resource approximately.
  • Support in project or program delivery (when required).
  • Work with the UNSW Risk unit to ensure project risks are captured and reported.
  • Deputise for the Director, Transformation & EPMO where required.

Skills and Experience Summary:

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline with extensive experience in leading and delivering effective change management outcomes in large scale transformative programs in complex organisations that include changes to people, organisational structures and culture, technology, process, finance and operations.
  • Extensive experience in engaging, leading, and coaching teams within a matrixed organisational structure, with a proven ability to collaborate effectively and provide mentorship to stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proven experience in both project/program delivery and change management, including hands-on management of at least two projects as a Senior Project Manager or Program Manager.
  • Strong leadership with the ability to influence stakeholders and guide/coach cross-functional teams.
  • Deep understanding of different project management methodologies and frameworks in designing change management approaches and deliverables.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex concepts into actionable plans.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to work systematically to quickly understand complex business and systems, anticipate implications, to identify and advise on fit-for-purpose change approaches and deliverables at an enterprise (whole organisation) level.
  • Previous experience in the higher education or public sector is highly desirable; alternatively, experience across a range of industries with the ability to adapt to different environments is equally valuable.
  • Exceptional communication skills with proven ability to write concisely and persuasively to a wide range of audiences, in particular to governance committees.
