We now have an exciting opportunity for a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer, Mechanical Engineering to join our team at the College of Science and Engineering.

  • Full-time and continuing
  • Located at the picturesque Townsville Bebegu Yumba campus in tropical North Queensland
  • ACAD Level B or C $106,593 - $148,787 p.a. plus up to 17% employer superannuation contributions, leave loading and other generous employee benefits
  • Level of appointment and remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As a proven or promising early career academic, you will have an ambition to establish a high-profile academic career in university teaching, research and partnership with industries and services. You will have core skills in mechanical engineering and a proven track record of teaching in mechanical engineering or related disciplines, publication of research in quality journals, attracting research/consulting funding, and supervision of higher degree research students. Membership, or eligibility for membership with the Institution of Engineers Australia is highly desirable.

You will have the opportunity to build an excellent profile in mechanical engineering, manufacturing/advanced manufacturing, mechanical design, sustainable infrastructure, and net zero resources and technologies, with applications focused on northern Australia and the broader tropical world, making significant contributions to teaching, research, research training, partnership with industries, and services to the Academic Group of Engineering, the College of Science and Engineering, and the University.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE ROLE

  • Possession of a PhD or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline with highly developed skills and experience in teaching into mechanical engineering and related disciplines.
  • Proven track record of high-level research and scholarship in one or more of the areas of Manufacturing/Advanced Manufacturing, Mechanical Design, Sustainable infrastructure and Net Zero resources and technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to attract research grants and develop partnership with industries and to efficiently organise and conduct research projects and collaborative, multi-disciplinary research within diverse teams and with industry partners.
  • Proven capability in the supervision of coursework and higher degree by research (HDR) students.
  • Administrative skills and a flexible and constructive approach to work design and procedures.
  • Demonstrated advanced written, oral and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to engage with government bodies, industries and communities.
  • Proven ability/experience as an active, dedicated and collaborative team member.
