We now have an exciting opportunity for a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer Mathematics Education to join our team at the College of Arts, Society and Education in the Academy.

  • Full-time and continuing
  • Located at the picturesque Townsville Bebegu Yumba campus in tropical North Queensland
  • ACAD Level B or C: $106,593 - $148,787 per annum plus up to 17% employer superannuation contributions, leave loading and other generous employee benefits
  • Level of appointment and remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.


ABOUT THE COLLEGE OF ARTS, SOCIETY AND EDUCATION

The College of Arts, Society and Education builds capacity in the tropics by providing coursework that can develop knowledge and skills in Humanities, Arts and Creative Media, Social Sciences, Social Work and Education. We also facilitate the expansion of knowledge of people and societies in the Tropics through research at Masters and PhD levels.


ABOUT THE ROLE

Working alongside a diverse group of academic and research staff, you will be responsible for the development of innovative, contemporary course material, and the coordination of subjects and delivery of teaching in undergraduate and postgraduate programs. Additional duties will include research and publication of research within the field of Mathematics/Numeracy Education, in the context of Initial Teacher Education, and providing supervision of Higher Degree Research candidates.

You will also have the opportunity to initiate and support community engagement activities, work collaboratively with schools in Northern Queensland and beyond, liaise with relevant organisations and stakeholders, and support the University’s Strategic Direction.

Preference will be given to applicants who are able to contribute to teaching within the suite of Education programs offered at James Cook University, and those who can contribute to the key priorities of the Education Academic Group – including regional, rural and remote Education, and Indigenous Education.


WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE ROLE

  • Possession of a PhD in Mathematics Education as relevant to Initial Teacher Education, and an Australian teaching qualification; and registration, or eligibility for immediate registration, with the Queensland College of Teachers.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching Mathematics (i.e., Learning Area/Subject) in Australian schools; demonstrated knowledge and implementation of the Australian Curriculum and Senior Secondary syllabi – as relevant to professional experience and opportunity.
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching Mathematics Education in Initial Teacher Education programs (undergraduate and/or postgraduate); and leadership, development, and delivery of innovative curriculum in the field of Mathematics Education in a combination of face-to-face, online, and blended and flexible modes – as appropriate to the level of appointment.
  • A proven or developing track record of research and impact of research in the field of Mathematics Education, including peer-reviewed publications and successful grant activity; and supervision of Higher Degree Research candidates to timely completion – as appropriate to career stage.
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively and ethically in teams on teaching, research, and community engagement projects; and demonstrated productive engagement with schools, relevant organisations, community agencies, accrediting and professional bodies – as appropriate to the level of appointment.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills; demonstrated ability to work in a collegial and ethical manner and demonstrated organisational and administrative skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership and/or knowledge of professional accreditation for Initial Teacher Education programs relevant to the Queensland and Australian context (s). (Desirable)
  • Demonstrated capacity to lead and/or contribute to research in the Education Academic Group’s strategic areas of regional, rural and remote education, and Indigenous education. (Desirable)
  • Demonstrated capacity to teach within the suite of Education programs offered at James Cook University – that is, those in addition to Mathematics Education. (Desirable)
