We now have an exciting opportunity for a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer, Marine Geoscience to join our team at the College of Science and Engineering in the Academy Division.

  • Full-time and continuing
  • Located at the picturesque Townsville Bebegu Yumba campus in Tropical North Queensland
  • ACAD Level B or C $106,593 - $148,787 plus up to 17% employer superannuation contributions, leave loading and other generous employee benefits
  • Level of appointment and remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience

ABOUT THE ROLE

In this position, you will play a crucial role in delivering James Cook University’s Corporate Strategy by implementing cutting-edge teaching and research programs that build our capability and leadership in marine science, geophysics and engineering.

Your research experience will advance JCU's research profile in both pure and applied science relevant to understanding, protecting, and managing the northern Australian marine estate.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • A PhD or equivalent qualification in marine geoscience or related discipline.
  • A minimum of two years postdoctoral research, teaching, or industry experience or equivalent.
  • Expertise in the application of marine technologies (e.g. multibeam and singlebeam echosounders, lidar, sidescan sonar, shallow seismic profilers, underwater photogrammetry, and satellite remote sensing) and modelling to develop research outputs that directly inform management.
  • Demonstrated excellence in research, relative to career opportunity, leading to an emerging publication record and research income portfolio.
  • Demonstrated ability to efficiently organise and implement research projects, and conduct collaborative, multi-disciplinary research within diverse teams.
  • Capacity to independently conduct lectures, practicals, and assessment in the relevant discipline.
  • Experience in the supervision of research internships, honours and/or postgraduate students or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
  • Highly developed oral and written communication skills and the motivation to contribute to outreach and marketing activities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with an ability to relate to staff and students from all backgrounds, and to represent the College to government, industry, community groups and professional bodies.
