Creating a brighter future for life in the Tropics and beyond, through education and research that makes a difference locally, and globally, James Cook University (JCU) is looking to appoint a Manager, Centre Policy and Translation within the ARC Centre of Excellence - Indigenous & Environmental Histories & Futures (CIEHF). This position is offered on a Full time, fixed term basis and is based at our Cairns Nguma-bada campus.
ABOUT THE CENTRE
The new ARC Centre of Excellence for Indigenous and Environmental Histories and Futures (CIEHF), administered by James Cook University will set new standards for research and management on Country across Australia. Driven by respectful, authentic co-design, and drawing from diverse cultural, environmental, and historical records, the Centre will work to enhance Land and Sea Country management, reframed by Indigenous knowledges and science. The Centre expects to make a legacy contribution by developing complementary Indigenous and Western knowledge frameworks for modelling environmental, cultural, and historical change in Australia over the last millennium and into the near future.
This is an opportunity to be at the forefront of developing new management strategies, programs and protocols, directly relevant to Indigenous Land and Sea management organisations and ranger groups, Indigenous Protected Areas and jointly managed parks all while furthering your research career in a supportive environment.
What will you bring to the role:
- Extensive experience in knowledge translation and policy development.
- Cultural competency and knowledge of Australia’s Indigenous people and environmental history with an ability to effectively communicate and build relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
- Experience in stakeholder engagement.
- Significant leadership, mentoring and managerial skills.
