The vision of the UNSW Innovation Accelerator Program is to create an environment that empowers and supports individuals to bring innovative ideas to fruition. The Innovation Project Manager is responsible for leading and managing projects within the Innovation Enablement Program, including those involving artificial intelligence (AI). They will oversee the development and implementation of innovative solutions that align with UNSW's strategic objectives and values.

Role Purpose  - The purpose of the Innovation Project Manager at UNSW as part of the Innovation Accelerator Program is to oversee the development and execution of innovative projects within the program. This role involves managing project timelines, resources, and deliverables, ensuring that projects align with the strategic goals of the Innovation Accelerator Program and contribute to the broader objectives of UNSW. The Innovation Project Manager plays a critical role in facilitating collaboration, guiding project teams, and driving the successful completion of innovation initiatives that can transform educational practices and outcomes at the university in a customer centric manner.

Specific accountabilities for this role include:

  • Spearhead groundbreaking projects with finesse, crafting detailed roadmaps, timelines, and financial plans to deliver cutting-edge innovations efficiently and cost-effectively.
  • Collaborate with elite minds, including AI Program Lead and Director Program Delivery, to steer projects to triumphant completion.
  • Navigate the complexities of project management with strategic risk assessment and resolution, ensuring smooth sailing through potential challenges.
  • Command the helm of Innovation project delivery, guiding initiatives to meet and exceed both operational excellence and strategic ambitions.
  • Engage in hands-on project leadership, from meticulous planning and execution to thorough evaluation, shaping the future of project management.
  • Masterfully coordinate project elements, ensuring all cogs in the machine function seamlessly together, from risk mitigation to financial oversight.
  • Uphold the UNSW governance standards, integrating contemporary project delivery models with a tried-and-true framework that guarantees consistency and success.
  • Forge strong alliances with stakeholders, providing insightful updates and crafting solutions to obstacles with a proactive and collaborative approach.
  • Champion effective communication, ensuring all project participants, both within and beyond the organization, are aligned and informed.

Skills and Experience 

  • Proven experience in project managem ent, particularly in innovation or technology-driven projects including agile delivery.
  • Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience.
  • Proven advanced project management experience, with an in-depth understanding of the project life cycle and strategic development of project plans, objectives and documentation.
  • Excellent consultation, influencing and negotiation skills and proven ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders to achieve successful outcomes.
  • Demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving skills and proven capacity to exercise initiative, flexibility and to be proactive in development of robust solutions to problems.
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail for deliverables produced.
  • Demonstrated success working effectively and collaboratively on initiatives with a range of people at different levels within an organisation.
  • Knowledge of budgeting and resource allocation procedures.
  • Excellent time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
