Creating a brighter future for life in the Tropics and beyond, through education and research that makes a difference locally, and globally, James Cook University (JCU) is now looking to appoint a Laboratory and Technical Support Officer in Bioresources.  This position is offered on a full time, continuing basis and is based at the JCU Townsville Bebegu Yumba Campus in Douglas.

How you’ll make a difference
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Laboratory and Technical Support Officer to join our  close-knit team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical support and assistance in the daily operations of our bioresources laboratories.  You will assist in the management and care of bioresources, including small animal husbandry ensuring their health and welfare are opitmised by maintaining holding facilities and adhering to stivt quanrantine measures.  This role is essential to ensuring the smooth functioning of our research programs and maintaining the highest standards of laboratory practices.
 
What you’ll bring 
  • Proven experience in a laboratory environment providing technical support to a range of clients. 
  • Informed analytical, judgement and problem-solving skills to evaluate shifting priorities, and decisions regarding animal welfare, ensuring the correct course of action is taken.
  • Well-developed written and oral communication skills including interpersonal skills, to deliver customer centric service with positive outcomes.
  • General knowledge of research and animal ethics projects, timelines and standard operating procedures.
