Senior Research Associate – The Kirby Institute

  • Employment Type: Full-time (35 hour week)
  • Duration: 12 month fixed term contract
  • Remuneration: $123,620 - $145,730 + 17% Super and leave loading
  • Location: Kensington, NSW (Hybrid working, work from home and from UNSW Sydney campus)
  • Full Australian working rights are required for the duration of the contract.

Why Your Role Matters:

As a Senior Research Associate, you will provide academic support and oversight in the development and implementation of epidemiological studies, clinical effectiveness studies, clinical trials, and studies with aims to support knowledge to aid improvements in detection, prevention, and treatment of infectious diseases in marginalised populations. You will be involved in research projects from inception through to completion and dissemination and represent the Kirby Institute at national and international meetings with private and public sector groups or agencies.

The role of Senior Research Associate/Post-Doctoral Fellow reports to the Head of the Viral Hepatitis Clinical Research Program and has one Research Officer and/or Assistant direct report.

Who You Are:

  • A PhD in epidemiology in infectious diseases, immunology, or a closely related field, and/or relevant work experience.
  • Clinical experience in the field of infectious diseases and/or addiction (MD) in addition to the PhD would be favourable
  • Desirable: Knowledge of natural language processing and machine learning in electronic health records
  • A track record of significant involvement with the profession and/or industry, in the field of clinical trials in infectious diseases and/or addiction
  • Proven commitment to proactively keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments.
  • Demonstrated track record in research with outcomes of high quality and high impact with clear evidence of the desire and ability to continually achieve research excellence as well as the capacity for research leadership.
  • High level communication skills and ability to network effectively and interact with a diverse range of students and staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships.
  • Evidence of highly developed interpersonal and organisational skills.
