Job Description:

The Associate Dean, Clinical Engagement and Interprofessional Leadership and Practice (ADCEIPL) reports to the Executive Dean, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, and is a member of the Faculty Learning and Teaching Portfolio Leadership Team. They will support the Faculty in relation to the implementation of the Faculty’s strategic plans pertaining to clinical education, with a focus on interprofessional practice (IPP) and professionalism and leadership (P&L) in clinical areas.

The role works closely with staff engaged in Learning and Teaching (L&T) activities across the Faculty, including the Deans, Heads of School and Directors. The ADCEIPL will lead clinical education initiatives across the Faculty and liaise with staff and titleholders engaged in the delivery of the Faculty’s clinical programs. The role will be responsible for re-visioning the faculty’s IPP program through consultation with relevant stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participates in the Faculty’s Learning and Teaching Portfolio Leadership Team, collaborates with other Faculty leaders, and leads the development and implementation of strategy related to clinical education, IPP and P&L in clinical areas.
  • Represents the Faculty in appropriate L&T committees and other groups across the University.
  • Apply clinical expertise to educational design and delivery across disciplines.
  • Develop and facilitate innovative practices in clinical education, IPP and P&L.
  • Help ensure that the Faculty’s clinical programs are aligned with current best practice.
  • Contribute to quality assurance processes in clinical education.
  • Contribute to accreditation applications, as well as activities necessary for meeting accreditation requirements.
  • Engage proactively with local health networks, other health services and invidual clinical partners associated with the Faculty’s L&T activities.
  • Lead and facilitate scholarship in L&T in the areas of clinical education, IPP and P&L.
  • Establish networks and partnerships in order to develop a modern, innovative, flexible and sustainable approach to clinical education, IPP and P&L across the Faculty.

Selection Criteria

  • Clinical qualification, registrable with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.
  • Doctorate or relevant postgraduate qualification.
  • Demonstrated excellence in tertiary teaching and experience in clinical education, clinical leadership and IPP.
  • Passionate and unequivocal commitment to excellence in research and education and the demonstrated capacity to lead and motivate others.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, including the capacity to build relationships and an interdisciplinary way of working.
  • Demonstrated influencing and persuasion skills.
  • Capacity to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders across the University and wider community, including clinicians, local health networks and SA Health.
  • Commitment to the principles of collegiality and to equity and diversity.
  • Exemplary personal qualities of integrity, energy, tenacity and judgement.

Appointment Terms

  • The ADCEIPL will be a Teaching & Research or Teaching Only staff member at Level D or E.
  • The appointment period will be up to 0.5FTE for five years.
  • If required, release from an existing substantive position within the Faculty will be negotiated with the relevant School.
