Creating a brighter future for life in the Tropics and beyond, through education and research that makes a difference locally, and globally, James Cook University (JCU) is now looking to appoint a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer Disaster Health and Humanitarian Assistance.  This position is offered on a continuing, part-time basis and can be based at either the JCU Cairns Nguma-Bada Campus in Smithfield or the JCU Townsville Bebegu Yumba Campus in Douglas.

How you’ll make a difference
You will lead the design and delivery of innovative and high-quality postgraduate subjects related to disaster health management and humanitarian assistance, and broader public health themes. This position offers you the opportunity to develop or build on your own research portfolio in association with a strong group of collaborators in the College of Public Health, Medical and Veterinary Sciences, the Australian Institute of Tropical Health and Medicine, the Tropical Australian Academic Health Centre, other research centres within James Cook University (JCU), and external groups based within Australia and the region.
 
What you’ll bring 
You will have a strong background and practical experience in areas related to disaster health management and humanitarian assistance in emergency response settings, both nationally and internationally.  You will also have:
 
  • Medical, nursing, or other relevant health professional qualifications and a Master of Public Health degree (or equivalent) or equivalent professional/academic experience in the public health field.
  • Demonstrated experience in the field of disaster health, humanitarian assistance, and emergency response.
  • A strong track record of research and publications in disaster health and/or humanitarian assistance.
  • Demonstrated ability in the design, development, coordination, delivery and assessment of public health related subjects in various modes of delivery (internal, external, semester mode, block mode) at the postgraduate and undergraduate level.
  • Ability to bring innovative and practical insights on disaster health, humanitarian assistance and emergency response to the classroom, connecting theory with real-world applications.
  • High-level interpersonal skills and the ability to engage and liaise effectively with multidisciplinary academics and team members, health care professionals, community and professional bodies and other key stakeholders.
