About the position

Nexus is an alternative pathway into teaching specifically targeted at recruiting, preparing and supporting primary and secondary teachers for often hard-to-staff regional, rural and urban low SES schools. It is an employment-based, highly mentored teacher education program with unique involvement from the university, schools and local communities.

The position holder will have current understanding of teacher education and working in hard-to-staff schools to influence the development of the Nexus pathway into teaching and course development to support the Nexus team. Alongside student and school recruitment, they will design and implement innovative curriculum to foreground current approaches in learning interventions to support educators in regional, rural and low SES schools.

The position holder will have a strong understanding of education and policy reform and the professional implications at state level. They will manage engage in projects and work with the Nexus team to develop research projects and high-impact research outputs. They will make contributions to further enhance the reputation of La Trobe as a leader in teacher education for regional, rural and urban low SES schools.

The position holder will foster excellence in teaching and research in this area across the school, La Trobe and the broader community.

Skills and Experience

To be considered for this position, you will have;

  • Current understanding of theories, trends and education reform that address preparing teachers for regional, rural and urban low SES schools.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage in research and implement curriculum and professional programs in the areas of teacher education.
  • Demonstrated ability to innovate and implement evidence-based approaches to inform teaching, learning and curriculum development in face-to-face, blended and/or online modes.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness, and ability to innovate, in teaching, curriculum development and subject coordination, in face-to-face, blended and/or online modes, as evidenced by sustained high results on student feedback on teaching surveys, teaching excellence awards or through other forms of evidence.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct and publish high-quality, high-impact research.
  • Demonstrated capability to collaborate with stakeholder, industry and community partners to enhance teaching and research initiatives.
  • High level oral and written communication skills including the ability to interact effectively with community, staff and students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a team member in a collaborative and collegial manner.
  • Completion of a PhD or equivalent accreditation and standing recognised by the university/profession as appropriate for the relevant discipline areas.
