Employment Type: Full time; 35 hours per week

Duration: 2 years Fixed Term

Remuneration: Level C Academic -$145K - $166 K (based on experience) + 17% super+ annual leave loading

Location: Ingham Institute, NSW (Flexibility to travel to other sites including Kensington)

Why this role matters:

The Senior Research Fellow in Biostatistics and Cancer Epidemiology is a research-intensive academic position within the Collaboration for Cancer Outcomes, Research and Evaluation (CCORE) at the Ingham Institute, South-West Sydney Clinical School, UNSW. This role offers a unique opportunity to advance expertise in health services and equity research, contributing to UNSW's reputation as a national leader in this field.

The Senior Research Fellow will have the opportunity to lead statistical analyses of large-scale administrative datasets examining inequalities in evidence-based care for cancer. The research will involve data linkages of Australian Census and other Commonwealth health datasets to NSW health data.

The role of Senior Research Fellow reports to the lead of CCORE, Associate Professor, and has no direct reports.

Skills Required:

  • A PhD in data science or cancer epidemiology, and/or relevant work experience.
  • Proven commitment to proactively keeping up to date with research aimed at reducing health system inequalities.
  • Proven track record with high impact publications within biostatics, health services research or other related field, as first and/or senior author including in the last 3 years.
  • Demonstrated track record of successfully leading funding applications in the last 3 years.
  • Demonstrated evidence of research impact and translation.
  • Demonstrated evidence of established research networks, nationally and/or internationally.
  • Evidence of strong data management skills and experience with managing large linked administrative datasets.
  • High level statistical and data analysis skills in advanced analytic methods.
  • Proven experience in using statistical software including Stata, R or SAS.
  • High level communication skills and ability to network effectively and interact with a diverse range of students and staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships.
  • Evidence of highly developed interpersonal and organisational skills.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
