About the Role
An exciting opportunity to oversee the effective and efficient review, negotiation and finalisation of research contracts to be entered into by the faculties. As Team Leader, Research Contracts you will lead and supervise the assigned Senior Contracts Officers, Contracts Officers, and Assistant Contracts Officers, undertaking the effective and efficient review, negotiation and finalisation of research contracts.

You will monitor and manage the quality and timeliness of customer service and contracting operations and will serve as a point of escalation for the management of relationship issues with senior research stakeholders. Additionally, you will work with the Manager, Research Contracting to implement process improvements and systems changes that drive efficiency and enhanced customer service.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • First level supervision of staff working within assigned contracting portfolios relating to certain Faculties and functions, including providing mentoring, coaching and performance appraisals
  • Managing the overarching relationship between the Research Contracting team and the Faculties within the Portfolios, including receiving and responding to complaints, concerns, questions, feedback or requests from Faculty research support staff, or other stakeholder areas
  • Maintaining a high-level of customer satisfaction within the Portfolio
  • Planning and managing the implementation of operational and strategic projects across the Research Contracts team and Research Grant, Contract and Finance (RGCF)


Who we are looking for
We are looking for a someone with high level working knowledge of contracting and commercial law, with the ability to lead or advise on negotiations. You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to liaise with stakeholders at all levels. You will possess strong planning and organisational skills and demonstrated experience with knowledge of key risk issues associated with research and commercial contracts.

You will also have:

  • A law degree with demonstrated experience and expertise in drafting, negotiating, advising on contracts within a commercial, research, higher education or government environment
  • Demonstrated experience and expertise in the provision of contracting and commercial advice in a dynamic and complex operating environment
  • Relevant experience in project management and process improvement
