About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity for a Platform Applications Specialist to join the Biological Optical Microscopy Platform at the University of Melbourne. The Biological Optical Microscopy Platform provides research support for biomedical researchers using high-end optical microscopes in their research. This includes confocal, live-cell, super-resolution, high-content, multi-photon, slide scanning and lightsheet microscopes and associated data analysis software.

The position will report to the platform manager and work with a team of academic and professional staff supporting use of the platform capability.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Provide high-level expertise, advice and assistance to researchers to undertake research projects utilising platform equipment.
  • In collaboration with the research groups, contribute to the data generation/interpretation and manuscript drafting/submission of peer-reviewed journals.
  • Develop training content & workshops for advanced microscopy applications.
  • Provide effective training of research staff & students on platform equipment

Who We Are Looking For

To be successful in this role you will have excellent teamwork and communication skills, enabling you to work effectively with various internal and external stakeholders

You will also demonstrate excellent organisational skills, which enable you to evaluate and manage competing demands in a dynamic environment.

You will also have:

  • PhD (or equivalent experience) in the biological sciences using model organisms or organoids
  • Demonstrated research expertise in tissue clearing/lightsheet microscopy and other advanced optical microscopy applications relevant to the platform (e.g. Confocal Microscopy, High-Content Imaging and Super-Resolution Microscopy Applications)
  • Demonstrated expertise in relevant image analysis applications including FIJI/Image J & Imaris

This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University. In the case the selected candidate doesn't have a valid Working with Children Check, they will be able to apply for the WWCC as part of the initial onboarding procedures.
