Research Assistant

  • Employment Type: Part-time (14 hours per week)
  • Duration: 6 month fixed term contract (parental leave cover)
  • Remuneration: $82,818 - $93,711 Full time annual equivalent + 17% Super and leave loading
  • Location: Kensington, NSW (Hybrid Flexible Working)
  • Australian working rights required for the duration of the contract

Why Your Role Matters:

As a Research Assistant, you will play a key role in SPHERE Cancer Clinical Academic Group (CAG) by supporting research studies as part of a multidisciplinary team of researchers in the area of oncology.

You will provide administrative and research assistance to senior research staff including, coordinating the general administration of an externally funded research project and providing research support and administration for key projects and activities.

The role reports to the Cancer CAG Director. This role has no direct reports.

Who You Are:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in health, psychology, science or a related discipline or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience.
  • Previous experience providing research assistance for studies in a health-related field, such as psycho-oncology, or clinical trials research will be highly regarded.
  • Understanding of the physical and psychosocial implications of cancer and its treatment across the lifespan in children and young people or adults, will be highly regarded. Understanding how supporting outcomes on treatment can lead to better outcomes after treatment completion.
  • Understanding of the health systems and digital record keeping systems used to support delivery of cancer care, and awareness of how healthcare can be both improved and hindered by technological advances.
  • Experience with ethics and research governance
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail and the ability to liaise effectively with a range of stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of and aptitude to learn various IT software, such as research-related computer programs (REDCap, Excel, SPSS and Endnote).
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain and organise complex filing systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively within a team, but also to take initiative and work independently while managing competing demands.
