About the role

We are currently seeking a Research Officer to join the VIDEA lab at the Health Research Institute (HRI), University of Canberra. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research that addresses pressing health and societal challenges.

As part of a collaborative team, you will be responsible for creating interactive visual content including dashboards, maps, charts, and infographics and will be tasked with transforming data sets, including quantitative and qualitative research data into compelling visuals to help translate research into policy and practice.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Creating and implementing data visualizations, interactive tools, and dashboards.
  • Data management and presentation
  • Collaborating with academic and professional staff to facilitate the sharing of expertise, information, and datasets.
  • Ensuring work aligns with best practices in business intelligence, including data architecture and governance, and maintaining the confidentiality of databases.
  • Develop data visualizations for research programs and assist with business engagement, dashboard uptake, and self-service literacy through workshops and training.

To be successful in this role, you will have

  • A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience in Business Intelligence Analytics, Data Visualisation.
  • Demonstrable practical programming knowledge in one or more of R, SQL, or Python languages.
  • Proficiency in data visualisation software and tools such as Power BI and/or open-source packages.
  • A strong understanding of data analysis techniques and demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Good communication skills with both technical and non-technical collaborators.
