The Assessment and Psychometric Research division is one of three ACER business divisions, the others being the Educational Research, Policy and Development division and the Professional Resources division. These are supported by the Corporate Services division and People and Culture division. The Assessment and Psychometric Research division consists of over 90 staff working in four teams: Assessment Data and Analytics, Assessment Development, Large Scale Assessments and Methodology and Measurement.
 
The Team
This position works within the Foundational Skills team which specialises in adult literacy, numeracy, and digital literacy, as well as early childhood and primary years educational assessments. The Foundational Skills Team is one of seven test development teams within the Assessment Development research program dedicated to developing assessments and associated materials across the learning lifespan. The successful applicant will play a leading role in developing ACER’s profile and expertise in adult literacy and/or numeracy assessment.

Position Accountabilities
As a test developer you will author test adult literacy, numeracy, and digital literacy items for assessment, seek stimulus materials and write marking guides for assessment of open-ended questions. You will also assist with preparing training materials and delivering workshops to adult literacy and numeracy providers. In addition to applied test development, you will also conduct and deliver components of high quality research to meet project objectives; contribute to design and construct components of survey and assessment instruments and learning materials. Over time you will also prepare components of reports and other forms of project dissemination and communication and contribute to preparing research proposal submissions, applications and tenders for new business.
 

Job Requirements:

About You
  • Experience working in the adult literacy and numeracy sector.
  • Experience undertaking quality educational research in adult literacy and/or numeracy.
  • Experience assessing adult literacy and/or numeracy.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Experience working on collaborative research projects.
  • Ability to communicate research approaches, concepts and outcomes both verbally and in writing.
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills with the ability to manage a range of tasks with conflicting priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines while maintaining high attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to foster and develop effective working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders from culturally diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • You will hold a master’s degree or equivalent postgraduate qualification in relevant discipline.

General Information
The position is full time and offered on a 2-year fixed term basis with the possibility of ongoing thereafter. Part time .6 to .8 FTE arrangements will also be considered for the right applicant.
 
Salary is within the range $131,359 - $145,183 (pro rata), plus 17% superannuation. The position may be based in any of our Australian offices (Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide).
